There was a stretch tonight early on when Serge was about the only thing holding the Raptors in the game, and he was scoring easily. Unfortunately, late in the game, he missed a lot of good looks that they really needed him to hit, and he struggled on both ends during the third quarter run when the Bucks took control of the game.

OG didn’t get much run tonight, but it felt like he did a really good job defending Giannis when he was out there, especially during the first quarter when he contained him.

The Raptors offense spent most of the first three quarters running away from Jonas, and struggling to find good shots. When they finally remembered that Milwaukee can’t stop him he generated a lot of easy points for the team. Would’ve been nice to see them go to him earlier though.

Hit a HUGE game-tying dunk as time expired to send the game to overtime, and I suspect the L2M report will say he was fouled on it as well and should’ve been shooting a free throw.

There were moments of good Kyle, he hit a big three at the beginning of overtime to help the Raptors build a five-point lead, but his defense was atrocious on Bledsoe tonight and Kyle and DeMar simply worked every other Raptor out of the offense for long stretches of the game by forcing ugly one-on-one possessions.

D. DeRozan41 MIN, 33 PTS, 8 REB, 4 AST, 2 STL, 13-27 FG, 2-6 3FG, 5-6 FT, 0 BLK, 4 TO, 1 +/-

He scored 33, and some of them were very pretty, but this wasn’t a good DeMar game. His defense was as bad as it’s been, he forced a lot of shots and had some terrible turnovers, and he cost the Raptors any chance of getting back into the game when he settled for a dunk in the last two seconds of overtime while the team was down 3.

Fred was huge in the fourth quarter, but he struggled running the offense in the second, frequently forcing offense into tougher defenders while Delon had a matchup against Jason Terry. Also could’ve used him hitting a three or two tonight.

Huge game from Pascal, who played tough defense on Giannis when tasked with that matchup, and also, along with Jakob Poeltl, was one of the proponents of the team’s fourth quarter comeback.

The Raptors needed his shooting tonight, and he just didn’t have it. Missed a lot of good looks, especially in the late third/early fourth quarters when he missed three in a row that were all good looks while the Raptors were trying to bring the game back.

Jak was a huge part of the reason the Raptors had a chance. For the first 8 minutes of the fourth quarter he completely controlled the paint and helped shut down the Bucks offense, while also scoring some easy buckets on offense and finding guys for good looks. Did have a rough second quarter, but he certainly made up for it.

The Raptors could’ve used more aggressiveness on both ends from Delon, although he did have some big moments during the fourth quarter.

I didn’t feel like the rotations were the problem tonight, but the team didn’t seem ready to play, and that has to be at least partially on the coach. There was a lot of old Raptors in this one, settling for one-on-one tough offense that wasn’t generating good shots. To his credit, he got the team to turn it around and had a chance to win it, but it felt like he was always adjusting just a little too late to get the win.

Things We Saw

  1. Milwaukee is really, really good. This team has been one of the best in the league since firing Jason Kidd, and they showed it tonight. They’ll be a tough out for anyone in the playoffs.
  2. Even though Jonas did get fouled on that dunk at the end of regulation, that’s not where the game was lost. The Raptors have to be better, and they’ve frequently shown this year they can be better. This was a rough performance that they almost won solely on talent.
  3. It’s a make or miss league. Milwaukee went 13/26 from three tonight, and the Raptors went 9/34. That’s part of the story, and the Raptors missed a lot of good looks that might go down on another night.
