Did he play tonight? Really didn’t have an impact, and sat the fourth because of it. Was great in games 1 and 2, and needs to find that form again.

O. Anunoby22 MIN, 3 PTS, 3 REB, 0 AST, 1 STL, 1-4 FG, 1-4 3FG, 0-0 FT, 1 BLK, 2 TO, -3 +/-

OG’s defensive impact was massive. He was everywhere when he was on the court, and caused plenty of problems. Maybe he earned some fourth quarter minutes, but it’s hard to knock what worked.

J. Valanciunas32 MIN, 14 PTS, 12 REB, 2 AST, 1 STL, 5-13 FG, 0-0 3FG, 4-4 FT, 2 BLK, 0 TO, 19 +/-

Absolutely massive game from the big man. His defense was huge, including singlehandedly shutting down a John Wall pick and roll in the fourth and generating a fast break, and his presence in that final quarter really turned the game around for the Raptors.

A
K. Lowry38 MIN, 17 PTS, 3 REB, 10 AST, 2 STL, 7-13 FG, 3-6 3FG, 0-2 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, 11 +/-

Big game from him. Showed up, played tough basketball, hit his shots and created a lot of buckets for other guys. Played tough and was a huge part of the win.

A
D. DeRozan39 MIN, 32 PTS, 2 REB, 5 AST, 1 STL, 12-24 FG, 3-4 3FG, 5-6 FT, 0 BLK, 4 TO, 15 +/-

When DeMar was good tonight, he was great. There was a lot of tough buckets, some incredible shot creation, and he carried some minutes where nothing else was working. He also forced some isolations unnecessarily though, and the defense still has to get better.

A
D. Wright26 MIN, 18 PTS, 5 REB, 1 AST, 2 STL, 6-10 FG, 2-2 3FG, 4-4 FT, 1 BLK, 2 TO, 13 +/-

One of the best Raptors on the floor in this one. He made a lot happen during that critical 12-0 run in the fourth quarter, and after being tentative shooting the ball in game 4, was more than willing tonight, and it paid off for the team.

B
C. Miles23 MIN, 8 PTS, 4 REB, 2 AST, 1 STL, 2-7 FG, 2-7 3FG, 2-2 FT, 1 BLK, 0 TO, 12 +/-

His shot didn’t fall in this one, but he found ways to make up for it with tough defense and some unexpected playmaking in key fourth quarter minutes, and even hit a couple big buckets including a late three that sealed the game.

C+
J. Poeltl16 MIN, 9 PTS, 3 REB, 2 AST, 1 STL, 3-5 FG, 0-0 3FG, 3-6 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -9 +/-

On the plus side, he’s been getting better as the series went on, and he hit some important buckets. On the other hand though, he still struggled defensively and the Raptors got eaten up on the boards during his minutes. Still needs to be better.

C
P. Siakam12 MIN, 4 PTS, 1 REB, 2 AST, 0 STL, 1-2 FG, 0-0 3FG, 2-2 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -4 +/-

Had a one-man fast break that was a thing to behold, and otherwise, still needs to find more ways to contribute in this series.

D
N. Powell8 MIN, 0 PTS, 0 REB, 1 AST, 0 STL, 0-1 FG, 0-1 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, 1 +/-

It is a real struggle for Norm, who is only called upon in rare situations and doesn’t get enough minutes to really get his footing, but at the same time, doesn’t really seem clear what his goals are for contributing at times.

B+
Dwane Casey

Casey made some puzzling decisions for a lot of this game. DeMar and the bench lineups that haven’t been good, all-bench to start the fourth quarter. But he found himself late, and the fourth quarter was exactly what the team needed, with going to Lowry early, and then closing with Jonas on the floor. These were the adjustments asked for, and they paid off.

Things We Saw

  1. Still missing Fred. The bench hasn’t been itself all series, and hopefully the return of VanVleet can help fix that, but it wasn’t great tonight in their dedicated minutes.
  2. Rebounding was an issue. The Raptors lost the rebounding battle 50-35, and let Washington grab 32.6% of their own misses, which they have to improve on.
  3. Just 10 turnovers in this one, something that was a problem in Washington, and they have to keep them down against this Wizards team that can score in bunches when you give them transition opportunities.
  4. The Raptors stay undefeated at home in the series, where they were tough all year. Now they have to find a way on the road, to avoid a tough game 7 and to garner some rest before the second round.
