His first game shooting under 50-percent from the field since the second game of the year. The 76ers played him really well, always shading properly. Still made a ton of great passes, and grabbed a healthy amount of O-boards. Had a great stretch of play to open up the second half.

A+
K. Leonard35 MIN, 36 PTS, 9 REB, 1 AST, 5 STL, 13-24 FG, 5-6 3FG, 5-6 FT, 1 BLK, 2 TO, 4 +/-

A +++. Unstoppable. The 5 steals were criminal, as the 76ers looked like children each time he ripped the ball away. His defense was almost equal to his offense tonight, and both were of the highest order in this league. What a monster.

A-
S. Ibaka24 MIN, 18 PTS, 8 REB, 2 AST, 0 STL, 7-13 FG, 0-1 3FG, 4-4 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, -4 +/-

With Embiid patrolling the paint, his work on the pick n’ pop was massive tonight, and especially early on. Did a terrific job competing on the glass with Embiid. Awesome game.

B+
K. Lowry33 MIN, 7 PTS, 4 REB, 4 AST, 3 STL, 2-8 FG, 1-7 3FG, 2-2 FT, 1 BLK, 4 TO, 5 +/-

Can’t glaze over the passed up shots on offense, it’s troubling. Outside of that, he’s one of the best players in the league. He took 2 (!) charges against the massive Joel Embiid, and he keeps his finger on the pulse of the game. His compete level never leaves us wanting.

B-
D. Green32 MIN, 5 PTS, 5 REB, 3 AST, 0 STL, 2-9 FG, 1-6 3FG, 0-0 FT, 1 BLK, 2 TO, 5 +/-

Really liked his defense, as always. The shots weren’t falling, but he had no hesitation when putting them up, which is essential to the offense’s playstyle and success. Run of the mill Green game, with a touch of rough shooting.

D
F. VanVleet19 MIN, 5 PTS, 1 REB, 1 AST, 1 STL, 2-7 FG, 1-3 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, 7 +/-

Even when paired with Leonard, he’s still eating up all the possessions. His one triple came when he was off-ball. His second half was much improved, but it was largely due to handing over the reigns to Wright-Siakam-Valanciunas for the bench’s run.

C
O. Anunoby18 MIN, 4 PTS, 5 REB, 2 AST, 1 STL, 2-8 FG, 0-3 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, 8 +/-

Individual defense was a bit lagging at times, but his team defense was awesome. Another difficult night on offense, but he did show-off a drop-dribble move to slice into the lane in the second quarter.

A+
J. Valanciunas18 MIN, 26 PTS, 8 REB, 2 AST, 0 STL, 9-13 FG, 0-1 3FG, 8-9 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, 14 +/-

The A + doesn’t mean he’s better player than Ibaka, or Lowry or whatever you guys want to argue about. He played his role perfectly tonight. A ball of energy. Yes, he punched the 76ers frontline in the mouth and ate everything. Dominated Embiid in the minutes they faced each other, but he also sprinted to every screen he set and cleaned the defensive glass with aplomb. A perfect game from a big-man off the bench.

C+
D. Wright13 MIN, 2 PTS, 0 REB, 2 AST, 0 STL, 1-4 FG, 0-1 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, 5 +/-

His game will continue to start slow if VanVleet eats up so many of the bench possessions. In the second half he showed great synergy with Valanciunas, and had a terrific finish for his part. Waiting for Nurse to turn him loose as a primary ball-handler.

C. Miles10 MIN, 0 PTS, 1 REB, 2 AST, 0 STL, 0-2 FG, 0-1 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, 8 +/-

He still can’t hit his jumpers, which is the thing he’s on contract for. There’s no place for his game when he’s not hitting. Hope it comes around. Had a nice dump off to Valanciunas after he attacked from the wing.

G. Monroe6 MIN, 4 PTS, 4 REB, 0 AST, 1 STL, 2-4 FG, 0-0 3FG, 0-1 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, 1 +/-

Oodles of energy in his minutes, and largely the reason he was a positive in his time on the court. What a boon to throw a guy in for 5 minutes and to get 4-points and 4-boards as reward.

Nick Nurse

Went with Monroe instead of going small when Valanciunas had foul trouble. Staggered Siakam with the bench, and that unit was a strength in this game. Liked the rotations a lot, and the gameplan today was great. He still isn’t responsible for missed threes.

Things We Saw

  1. The work the guards did – Lowry and Green especially – helping down low to deal with Embiid was exemplary. The team’s job ganging up on the 76ers bigs was a huge reason in Valanciunas and Ibaka winning their matchup.
  2. Paul Pierce immediately after the game: “I still think the 76ers are gonna be better, definitely better.” Send this man home. Butler was awesome tonight, and if his outside shooting is gonna be this good, the 76ers are gonna have a great shot at ECF.
  3. Even though Simmons almost had a triple-double, he still had a tough time imprinting himself on this game. Leonard, Siakam, and Anunoby did terrific work all night long. Kudos to them.
  4. We’re waiting on Lowry’s jumper. It gives me life to see him punish guys when they go under screens and that hasn’t happened in what seems like a month. He’s not even hitting open catch and shoot opportunities. Looking for that jumper to come around.
