Dwane Casey Admits Toronto Has A Rule About When To Pass To Jonas Valanciunas

Dwane Casey revealed that Toronto has a rule about when to pass Jonas Valanciunas the ball.

This season it has been a point of frustration among fans when Toronto’s guards dominate the ball while Jonas Valanciunas gets “frozen” out of the offense.

Dwane Casey admitted to me tonight that Toronto has a rule about when to pass Valanciunas the ball.

“With Kyle (Lowry) and DeMar (DeRozan) in, naturally he’s like the third option behind those two. We have to do a better job of getting him the ball. But also, he has to meet us halfway and continue to get deep post position.

Guys have been giving it to him in the post once he’s in deep. We have a rule: if he gets pushed out to the logo than we don’t give it to him. It’s a rule of ours, and it makes him work to get in deep and get deep post position.”

This is something to keep an eye on during the final few regular season games before Toronto starts playing meaningful games again in the playoffs.
