Do we make the Playoffs now or do we have to wait till next year?

lf there is a season to tank, that will be the next season.
2014 is a deep draft, with the possibility of landing Wiggins.

What’s that expression – those that don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Yes, that aptly describe Colangelo and the owners of the Raptors.

Gay is averaging 17 points per game on 40% shooting from the field and 30% shooting from 3pt range. On top of that, his numbers accross the board have all declined in each of the last 3 years. Those are horrible numbers for a SF especially one who is owed 37 Million over the next 2 years and who has a player option for the year thereafter. Not to mention that Derozan, who makes about half the salary, has a simlar game as Gay and neither can shoot a 3 pointer. So let’s trade our best 3 pt shooter and distributor in Calderon and a young piece in Davis and perhaps a draft pick as well to get Gay!! And, let’s give the PG job to Lowry who has been a failure so far with this team despite the hopes of many fans. Makes total sense. This my friends is what Colangelo would have you believe is a plan and team building.

I guess if this deal goes through it means Colangelo isn’t leaving anytime soon. Wow! His best team was the team he created in his first year and every team since has been worse. I guess it doesn’t take much for the board to be convinced he’s the right guy for the job!

Its not like this team would ever do a proper rebuild. All this suggestion that Raptor fans won’t accept a rebuild is total BS. Wrong. Fans will accept losing as long as they see a definitive plan laid out by management explaining how this team will get better.  Unfortunately, Colangelo has never had a plan instead swinging for the fences with high risk trades. Now if he at least had a plan to also move Derozan, Bargnani, Fields, etc. to acquire another significant piece that would at least be something to consider but there’s no reason to believe that’s true or that he has any plan – after all there is no evidence he’s ever had any plan for this team before.

With the acquisition of Gay, DeRozan is probably the next piece that will be traded. Ross can be a better partner for Gay as he is the better shooter.

So Does this mean that Jose and ED are unavailable tonight?

    it’s confirm go on espn

    This is insanity.

    We give them:
    – Calderon, the only reason our offense is number 10 in the league right now
    – Davis, our budding lottery pick
    – A first round pick, for the love of God I hope it’s protected

    – Rudy Gay, who is a miserable defender, has declined the last two years, shoots the same percentage as Bargnani, is massively overpaid, and will leave town after two years (assuming he doesn’t demand a trade first)

This is the same scenario that’s been played out by the Leafs and Raptors over and over again. Mortgage the future to win now. It never works. At best we’ll be mediocre for a short period.

But who cares? It looks like a done deal. Colangelo is giving the fans one last fuck you on his way out the door. Well played.

2nd round pick according to espn.

I agree, its a bit crazy.  But the more I think about it the more I realize that it is very difficult to get a player entering his prime. If you do its because of glaring flaws. In this case, the reason is financial, which is distinct from basketball reasons. So Maybe this is a good get. Time will ultimately tell. We are certainly selling high with ED, so you can’t complain ab0ut holding on to assets for too long. My hope is that Detroit get JC and doesn’t resign him. I just can’t get excited about a back court of KL and JL3. Gad help us.

  • Jay Semilla

Jose ends up in Detroit. Breaks my heart. Goodbye Jose. Good luck in Detroit. thanks.

Jose will forever be a Toronto Raptor

I know the numbers aren’t pretty but Gay has the most Talent of any of the players in the deal, was stuck playing in one of the least imaginative offences I’ve seen since Kevin O’Neil and is still fairly young. YES he is overpaid. NO I don’t care. He is the single best player on this squad, now it’s up to Casey to bring court the best in him. He was obviously not happy in Memphis and a change of scenery could be good. I mean if we’re expecting for Landry friggin Fields to find his rookie form I don’t see why we can’t be optimistic enough to hope Rudy Gay finds the game he had that got him that silly contract.

This squad wasn’t doing anything but losing anyway. The reason you stock assets is to give yourself the ability to go after deals like this. Lowry/Ross/Gay/Amir/JV is making me excited. DD and Bargs are the next chips on the table.
