Adrian Wojnarowski has reported that former Indiana Pacer and Charlotte Bobcat D.J. Augustin has agreed to a 1 year, $1.2 million deal with the Raptors.
The undersized Augustin has never lived up to expectations after being drafted 9th by Charlotte (just to rub salt in the wound of Bobcat fans, Brook Lopez was taken one spot later), and is coming off his worst season in his one season in Indiana, while he isn’t good enough to push Kyle Lowry for the starting spot, he has the potential to be a very good backup. And if Lowry is traded in an attempt to rebuild, Augustin should be capable of holding down the fort for a year.
He’s quick and can hit the three (career .370 from beyond the arc), but his size hurts him defensively, and has not always been the most consistent quarterback.
Overall, this is a very good signing by Ujiri, and the Raptors are now respectable three deep at the point guard position (Lowry, Augustin and Byucks- Stone wasn’t signed after failing the medical).
