Raptors recall Nogueira, Powell, and Caboclo from D-League

Expect them back in Mississauga on Saturday.

The Toronto Raptors have recalled Lucas Nogueira, Norman Powell, and Bruno Caboclo from Raptors 905 of the D-League,

These updates are mostly procedural for this seven-game Raptors home-stand, as with the 905 also in town, it only makes sense to shuttle guys back and forth to maximize their playing and practice time while also allowing them the benefits of being around the parent club and, in the case of Nogueira or Powell, possibly see spot minutes.

That hasn’t been the case often, but Powell and Nogueira were both called into non-garbage duty in the last week, faring mostly well. Powell continued his season of strong play when given the opportunity Thursday, scoring a 905 franchise-record 36 points with 12 rebounds and six assists. Nogueira, coming off of some surprise second-quarter run Wednesday, wasn’t nearly as impressive, doing some nice things on offense but earning criticism from head coach Jesse Memuys for his defensive effort.

Caboclo, meanwhile, shot 5-of-7 from long-range and finished with 29 points but has little chance of even being active on Friday when the Raptors host the Portland Trail Blazers.

Assuming no injuries take place and nobody from the trio is used heavily Friday, expect all three – or perhaps two and Delon Wright – to be assigned back down for the 905’s 2 p.m. tip on Saturday. Even with the addition of E.J. Singler on Friday, the 905 remain too thin to get by without the benefit of assignments.

I hope you’re all as excited to read this exact same post reworded tomorrow morning and then evening as I am to write them.
