L. Scola 11 MIN | 0-2 FG | 0-1 3FG | 0-0 FT | 2 REB | 2 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 0 PTS | -11 +/-Not his fault that Alrdige went off tonight; not even close. Did a quality job of moving the ball around with perimeter skip passes that usually ended well. That’s about it…
J. Johnson 17 MIN | 0-5 FG | 0-2 3FG | 2-2 FT | 1 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 2 PTS | -14 +/-Invisible for the first three quarters. Defense was decent, but was more a nuisance than a hinderance for Kawhi.
J. Valanciunas 29 MIN | 8-11 FG | 0-0 3FG | 0-0 FT | 6 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 2 BLK | 2 TO | 16 PTS | -7 +/-5-7 in the 1st quarter while the rest of the team went 4-17; 2nd quarter…1 shot in just under 5 minutes of play. Don’t know what to tell you folks. Our boy did all he could to keep the team afloat to start the game but the team looked off him and cooled it’s own hot hand down. Could have done a better job of demanding the ball, but not sure that would have helped. Thought he could have done more on the glass, but a lot of those rebounds were long ones.
C. Joseph 33 MIN | 8-15 FG | 0-2 3FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 7 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 4 TO | 16 PTS | +1 +/-You could tell he was forcing a bit more than he would normally eary, but it was expected given it was the first game back at the Alamo after joining the Raptors. Settled down as the game progressed, went back to being Mr. Dependable, and finished the game very strong with Delon. Defense was superb on TP and Mills; totally kept those guys in check.
N. Powell 32 MIN | 6-10 FG | 1-2 3FG | 4-5 FT | 3 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 3 TO | 17 PTS | +1 +/-Dude is a gem. LOVED his defense on Kawhi in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Picked his spots offensively, but made every opportunity count. What a luxury for Casey to be able to count on him down the stretch with so many questions around Carroll. Watch his highlights from theĀ game.
P. Patterson 34 MIN | 5-9 FG | 2-3 3FG | 0-0 FT | 7 REB | 1 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 12 PTS | +5 +/-Yup. That’s how you close out a game your team had no business being competitive in, with it’s two best players out. Key scores. Key defensive stops. Key rebounds. Great leadership off the bench.
J. Thompson 13 MIN | 2-3 FG | 1-1 3FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 1 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 5 PTS | -4 +/-Got a bit of run, and ran with it. Not fast, just ran.
T. Ross 31 MIN | 5-15 FG | 2-7 3FG | 1-1 FT | 2 REB | 2 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 13 PTS | +4 +/-Didn’t have a whole lot of notes on him for some reason, but I don’t remember being frustrated or annoyed with him at any point, so a B it is given how critical the bench was in this game.
D. Wright 22 MIN | 5-8 FG | 0-0 3FG | 2-2 FT | 4 REB | 3 AST | 3 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 12 PTS | -6 +/-Took advantage of his speed and length against a Spurs backcourt that looked unable to do anything about it. Was able to make a lot happen off the dribble, in traffic, and with heavy defensive pressure on him. Wasn’t expecting that, and now that he showed what he can do against quality opponents, my expectations for him are unreasonably high for the rest of his career.
Dwane Casey Raptors had no business being within 4 with under a minute left in the game; NONE AT ALL. Did as good a job as he could have with match-ups and lineups as you could expect given he was missing his two best players. Had everyone focused on what they needed to do, and got out of their way. As good as it’s ever going to get for him.
