Got the start tonight in place of Nogueira, the Raptors continue to struggle getting off to good starts with Siakam in the lineup and tonight was no exception.

D
D. Carroll23 MIN, 0 PTS, 2 REB, 2 AST, 0-6 FG, 0-4 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -3 +/-

Offensively Carroll struggled in this game shooting 0-6, and played some okay defense. Carroll played 22 minutes before leaving the games with a neck injury, lets hope this injury is nothing serious for him.

B+
J. Valanciunas30 MIN, 10 PTS, 16 REB, 1 AST, 5-11 FG, 0-0 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, 1 +/-

Was a beast on the glass grabbing 16 total rebounds. Embiid is a tough match up for JV to score on, but when he got his opportunities he capitalized, even getting a good amount of run in the fourth quarter.

B
K. Lowry40 MIN, 24 PTS, 4 REB, 4 AST, 5-13 FG, 3-8 3FG, 11-16 FT, 1 BLK, 5 TO, -3 +/-

Lowry didn’t have his shot for most of the game, scoring most of his points being aggressive and getting to the line. Fouled out after getting two shots blocked late in the game on an ugly late game offensive set.

B
D. DeRozan38 MIN, 25 PTS, 3 REB, 6 AST, 11-21 FG, 0-0 3FG, 3-4 FT, 0 BLK, 2 TO, -6 +/-

Got off to a really cold start from the field, shooting 2-8 in the first half. In the fourth DeMar kept the Raptors in the game, but the late game heroics weren’t enough.

C
T. Ross31 MIN, 8 PTS, 6 REB, 0 AST, 3-10 FG, 2-7 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, 5 +/-

Struggled with his shooting tonight, missing some wide open threes which the Raptors really could have used.

B-
C. Joseph26 MIN, 5 PTS, 2 REB, 3 AST, 2-5 FG, 0-1 3FG, 1-2 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -1 +/-

Looked great on defense tonight, didn’t do much offensively.

C
N. Powell18 MIN, 5 PTS, 3 REB, 0 AST, 2-6 FG, 1-2 3FG, 0-0 FT, 1 BLK, 0 TO, -2 +/-

Didn’t match up with anyone on defense, and continues to have a tough time getting anything going on the offensive end.

B
J. Sullinger14 MIN, 8 PTS, 3 REB, 0 AST, 4-10 FG, 0-2 3FG, 0-1 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -3 +/-

In his first regular season game as a Raptor, Sullinger looked really impressive. Scoring down low, grabbing some rebounds, and doing his best defending Joel Embiid. It will take some time for him to work himself back into game shape and start hitting some shots from outside, but this was a very encouraging start.

B
F. VanVleet6 MIN, 2 PTS, 2 REB, 1 AST, 1-2 FG, 0-0 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -2 +/-

Looked great on defense in his five minutes of play. Not going to fault him for not getting more minutes, he was great when he was out there.

C
J. Poeltl4 MIN, 0 PTS, 1 REB, 0 AST, 0-0 FG, 0-0 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -3 +/-

Played some limited time at the end of the third quarter, grabbed a rebound, and committed two fouls. Not much to report.

C
Dwane Casey

Some questionable offensive sets down the stretch of the game. In close games the final play call continues to be Lowry ISO, which didn’t work out this time.

Things We Saw

  1. Raptors cold starts continue. With Lucas Nogueira out due to concussion protocol, the Raptors started with Siakam back at the power forward position. The offense sputtered in the first quarter, and the Raptors starting unit struggled to get anything going yet again.
  2. This game was really ugly. A lot of whistles, unspectacular offensive play from both teams, it’s what you expect to see out of the Raptors going on a back to back on the road.
  3. The last couple of year the Sixers have been a rough team to watch as they work through a rebuild. Now things are starting to look up for Philly, in 2017 they are 6-2, Joel Embiid is the real deal, and with Ben Simmons set to return soon this young team will be really fun to watch.
  4. This is the first Raptors loss to an Atlantic division opponent this year. Without key players like Patterson and Nogueira, on a back to back, these ugly losses are bound to happen.
