Things weren’t going all that well early for Bismack Biyombo in his Toronto Raptors debut. He missed a couple of bunnies in the first half and only played 5:45, a span during which the Raptors were outscored by seven points.
But the Raptors caught fire with Biyombo on the floor in the third quarter, outscoring Indiana by nine in the 3:27 he played. That earned the big man some fourth-quarter run, and Biyombo made the most of it. In the opening 6:15 of the quarter, Biyombo scored seven points, thanks in part to two offensive rebounds. Two of those points came on an emphatic baseline dunk that got the ACC crowd fired up for the stretch run.

Biyombo would pick up his fifth foul with 5:45 to play and fouled out 16 seconds after returning later in the frame, limiting his overall output. He’d finish the game with seven points on 3-of-6 shooting, adding five rebounds and one block, with the Raptors finishing a minus-1 in his 16 minutes. It was a nice debut, all things considered, but nothing new: Biyombo has poor hands, is a great offensive rebounder, and is a good defender whose aggression gets him in foul trouble at times. He appears to be a perfectly capable backup to Jonas Valanciunas, good for an occasional highlight like the one we saw tonight.
