Pascal was one of the few Raptors who was solid tonight, despite the rough shooting. He just didn’t have enough, and ended up trying to do too much sometimes due to the struggles of other guys.

A+
K. Leonard38 MIN, 32 PTS, 3 REB, 4 AST, 4 STL, 10-21 FG, 5-6 3FG, 7-8 FT, 2 BLK, 3 TO, 0 +/-

Kawhi was brilliant, and this loss wasn’t on him at all. Took over and kept it close late despite the team not having much else working, and just ran out of gas at the end. Had one of the most explosive plays of the season for him with a thunderous dunk on Jarrett Allen in overtime.

A-
J. Valanciunas26 MIN, 24 PTS, 8 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 10-15 FG, 0-2 3FG, 4-6 FT, 1 BLK, 0 TO, 5 +/-

Jonas was great at the offensive end, and the Nets had no answer for him. He was also the only one capable of keeping the Nets off the offensive boards in this game, and he wasn’t in the game for several critical possessions where they gave up second chance points late because they were attacking him in the pick and roll. This was pick your poison, and the Raptors might’ve picked the wrong one in going away from him.

C
K. Lowry36 MIN, 3 PTS, 3 REB, 11 AST, 1 STL, 1-8 FG, 1-7 3FG, 0-0 FT, 1 BLK, 5 TO, 1 +/-

Lowry’s passing remains an important part of the offense as he picked up another 11 assists, but he has to hit some shots at some point. Can’t find it right now, and if it’s health he needs to take some time off and rest, and if it’s not, he needs to figure it out.

B
D. Green34 MIN, 2 PTS, 4 REB, 2 AST, 0 STL, 1-2 FG, 0-1 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, 8 +/-

It’s not that Danny was particularly bad in this game, he just wasn’t notable and they could’ve used some bursts of energy from him.

C
F. VanVleet27 MIN, 8 PTS, 1 REB, 3 AST, 1 STL, 2-7 FG, 2-6 3FG, 2-2 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -6 +/-

Fred needs to stick to what his game is. When he’s trying to run the entire bench offense, it’s a mess, and it doesn’t work. When he’s playing off-ball and only attacking when the option is there, it works well. Too much of the latter tonight, again.

S. Ibaka20 MIN, 8 PTS, 6 REB, 1 AST, 0 STL, 2-7 FG, 0-1 3FG, 4-4 FT, 2 BLK, 2 TO, -9 +/-

Just not an impactful game from Serge in this one. Couldn’t contain the boards well enough, didn’t really have his offensive game going, and the energy felt like it wasn’t there.

B
D. Wright17 MIN, 5 PTS, 3 REB, 1 AST, 2 STL, 2-8 FG, 1-4 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, -4 +/-

It’s not entirely on Delon that he isn’t running the bench offense, but he has to step up and be more assertive then, and take control, when things aren’t working. He’s the best guy to run things when Lowry is sitting, and he’s not doing it enough.

C
O. Anunoby17 MIN, 3 PTS, 4 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 1-5 FG, 1-4 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, -1 +/-

OG had some huge defensive possessions on D’Angelo Russell late in the game, but his shot isn’t falling and his confidence doesn’t seem entirely there right now.

C
C. Miles14 MIN, 4 PTS, 3 REB, 1 AST, 0 STL, 0-1 FG, 0-1 3FG, 4-5 FT, 0 BLK, 2 TO, -1 +/-

CJ is doing too much, simply put. He’s out there to space the floor and find open shots, and he’s finding himself attacking off the dribble because other guys can’t find space. They need to simplify the bench offense.

D
Nick Nurse

It felt like Nurse completely forgot what worked tonight. He started JV, but then the team didn’t run pick and rolls early with him on the floor to use the space he creates. They went away, almost entirely, from the bench offense that worked against Philadelphia. These are easy solutions the Raptors have available that they just didn’t use tonight, and they paid for it.

Things We Saw

  1. This felt worse than losing by a point in overtime. The Raptors played much worse than the Nets tonight, but had more talent and that kept them in the game, but the execution just has to get better.
  2. Need to solve Lowry’s issues, and until they’re solved, might be better to keep his minutes lower. Run the offense through Leonard, Siakam and Wright more, let Kyle get himself sorted, because the team will need his scoring again.
  3. The Raptors have to rebound better, and that means the guards helping crash down to take away offensive boards. The Nets won the rebounding battle 60-41 in this one, and it’s hard to win games giving away that many possessions.
