I went one-on-one with Chris Denker from NetScoutsBasketball talking the draft including NCAA and international players. A focus is given to how rookies can impact poor teams and when trading down is an option for teams with high picks, this is with a view to drafting someone like Kyrie Irving and Harrison Barnes. Positive and negative hype tends to move players around in the draft and this could be an issue again this year, find out which player to look for. There’s a ton more player analysis in this 22 minute Rapcast including the man Denker loves – his name rhymes with Hollinger. We also talk Enes Kanter and other European prospects, one of whom Chris compares to Pau Gasol and leads him to believe that this could be an ‘international draft’. Listen and enjoy:

So Denker loves post players who actually play in the post, and hates comparing international player to Nowitzki. Can we please hire this guy?!?! čśŤ

Would’ve liked to know if Denker thinks the potential lock-out would would be a factor when these kids are deciding whether or not to declare for the draft.

NO WAY !!!!! Either Kyrie Irving of KEMBA WALKER!!!!!!!

  • Patrick Bronst

bargnani is a stretch 4 offensively and a 5 on d. jared sullinger is a post banger and can only guard power forwards. hmm…

As the possibilty of a NBA lockout for 2011-12 grows more real as the draft approaches look for alot of underclassmen to stay in college for security and stability.

That being said even if all the projected players declare I don’t see an immediate impact player ie Blake Griffin, in this draft as most players are at least 2-3 years away from being legit NBA starters in my mind- think last years #2 & #3 picks Evan Turner/Derrick Favors.

Even top selection John Wall’s game needs another year or two of NBA seasoning in which time the Wizards look to be Lottery bound unless they make moves.

I doubt the top guys will forego the draft even if there is a lockout. Given the amount of $ you are guaranteed at the top of the draft you can easily get credit and money is ridiculously cheap right now. Plus, the lockout doesn’t restrict endorsement deals or personal services contracts that these guys can sign. A guy like Sullinger would be crazy not to declare and be a top 5 pick, thereby guaranteeing himself, what, $10mm? Stupid to turn that down.

Even guys like Kemba Walker should come out. He’ll be leaving a massive percentage of his lifetime earning potential on the table if he doesn’t.

Raptors will draft Harrison Barnes and continue their trend of drafting players that look like Raptors.

    You heard it here first.

Barnes would a great pick at #5. A spot up shooter who plays tough defence… a more athletic and bigger version of anthony parker… would be good.

    • Balls of Steel

Apparently, Barnes might stay back if UNC doesn’t win a championship. So does other players for that matter.

Bad move. A career threatening injury = totally different life…

LOL, true that is probably the first time ive seen it in writing but you were not alone when seeing the jurrasic park resemblence and the raptors last couple draft choices

  • Mediumcore

Trading down? Just seems like a waste of an entire season of futility to trade away a top 5 pick.

how do you download the podcast from “download this file”?

Just right-click and hit ‘Save as’ or something. It’s a direct link to the mp3.

This draft will shape up to good, like it usually does.
Which makes me happy if for some reason the raps move down past 5th pick.

I have a feeling Kemba Walker will move up after the combine& tourney.

  • Kevin

I like Harrison Barnes around the 5th pick area and I don’t want to go with one of the 3 euro bigs. My ideal draft this year would be to draft Barnes then try to get another pick to grab a PG maybe Nolan Smith or Brendan Knight but Knight might go a little early.

  • Jee

    Sullinger looks like Denzel Washington.

Why have none of the iTunes links worked since podcast #94 or 95? You guys not paying your bills to Mr. Jobs?
