• truth be told

Want to see that ball get ripped from him when he actually has to dribble around a defender? LOL

    • Kate C

Agreed. His handles always look good in the summer… I’d rather seem him practicing protecting the ball with an aggressive defender going against him. I’m a big fan of his and I hope he has gotten better – can’t fault the guy’s work ethic. But I’ve learned not to fall in love with summer “improvements” until I see them carry over.

      • Slick

Mans game is evolving! This is where you put in the work! He’s gotten better every year. Proveem!

      • jakdripr

Can’t argue with this logic. Least he had a solid showing at the team USA scrimmage, it’s not a lot but it’s something. But I definitely agree that we should wait till we see the improvements in a string of actual games before getting excited.

Least the kids working his butt off, can’t take that away from him.

      • Truth Teller

Demar deserves the benefit of the doubt. He has improved every year.

    • RaptorFan

Hater…..is that what you want to see? You’re wack!

      • truth be told

I’m wack because he’s dribbling a ball in a summer practice drill? What happens when they iso Derozan in games? We’ve seen the results of his handles. You’re wack for not recognizing it.

        • Haunted

Don’t call someone “whack”, the both of you. That’s an insult you can never take back, but twenty years down the line, when you wonder if life is worth living anymore, you’ll wish you could.

          • Wack Attack!

They didn’t call each other ‘whack’. They both very clearly said ‘wack’. I’m pretty sure it probably means something totally different.

        • RaptorFan

You’re a hater – plain and simple. Either that or you don’t know very much about basketball and working on your skills.

In the video he’s working on his handles. If you watched the USA team scrimmage you would see that he’s already improved his handles….but then again you seem to be stuck in the past. So feel free to stay there.

          • truth be told

You don’t even know what the word ‘Hater’ means and probably use it cuz you hear others saying it. Not liking something is not hating.

Team USA scrimmages has shown he’s improved his ball handling? Lol

How long have you been watching this fine game of basketball for?

Let’s see what happens when they start playing for real again.

            • RaptorFan

LOL. Look it up in the dictionary. Better yet just look in the mirror.

Urban dictionary – A person that simply cannot be happy for another person’s success. So rather than be happy they make a point of exposing a flaw in that person.
Hating, the result of being a hater, is not exactly jealousy. The hater doesnt really want to be the person he or she hates, rather the hater wants to knock someone else down a notch.

As you can see …your comments are the very definition of hating. Enjoy your life …HATER.

        • Will

Would you prefer that he wasn’t practicing during the summer? If you’re a Raptors fan, why would you want to see him get stripped of the ball?

        • StrikerAI

You’re saying ball handling is his weakness…So by your logic he should sit at home and do nothing instead of strengthening his weakness.

    • Jamshid

Haters are going to Hate … The guy is working hard and improving every single summer.

    • Trini

It’s sad that all you have to do with your beautiful summer is come on raptors republic to be a complete troll who makes absolutely nothing but negative points towards this team.

I’m quite sure you were one of the tankers last year who said we had no hope to make the playoffs. The only truth here is that you’re pathetic and should be banned.

  • Ion66

Well, there’s 2 things to work on. Protecting the ball, and getting stronger with his left hand. Looks like the gym is a good place to work on the left, and I’d say the US team is the chance to work on protecting the ball. The better he gets with the left, the better he will protect the ball I’d hope.

  • KJ-B

Dribbling is all about getting low–DeRozan was witness to Joe Johnson firsthand masterclass in the playoffs. Jordan got catlike, way low on the dribble, Kobe, even Durant similar as well. I’m most impressed with the posture. Getting low means using the legs and not just the torso. That’s where explosion comes stepping into J’s or exploding in the lane. If you watch his tape before he dribbled stiff like a tinman.

    • truth be told

All of the players you’ve mentioned had more developed handles than Demar coming into the league. JJ developed his a little bit more from his time with the Hawks but he also uses his body very well shielding the dribble.

    • TheSpiceTyrant

Great point: that’s the first thing I noticed during those drills… How low he was.

Before he seemed to dribble primarily for purpose, but with this stance you can dribble with purpose (move body and ball) and adjust to what the defense gives you.

Hopefully he can create with his ball handling AND athleticism… Skills that guys like Westbrook have.

  • Wes mantooth

    Seems pretty basic no??
Although I did watch the scrimmage and he had a sequence where he went behind the back twice with opposite hands crowd went nutz an he whipped a pass to the corner for a dime three.
His passing was also great during that game. If mason plumlee could finish he would’ve got 3 more assists. I thought last year he showed some flashes of being a good passer.
Love this kid. Works his ass off

    • Heyjoe

Basics are all you need to have good handles. It’s a matter of mastering those basics really and knowing when to use them.

Some of the best dribblers in the league put people on their butts just using a basic crossover. Largely because they have nearly mastered said crossover.

      • Wes mantooth

Thanks for the bball lesson mr hardaway. Was saying video was basic. No innovative training technique. I also was giving derozan props

    • StrikerAI

What’s wrong with basics? Basics is what make you strong.

      • Wes mantooth

Did I say something was wrong ?
I also said he was the man and his handles have improved a lot !
U should read the whole post before having a hissy fit

        • StrikerAI

I think you need to look up the definition of a hissy fit lol.

    • Truth Teller

Fundamentals are strengthened through a repetition of basic steps.

  • Truth Teller

And this is why Demar has improved every year!

  • Ednan Ahmed

His moves are good he just lost the ball a lot last year and I like the fact that he acknowledged that it was something he needed to work on

Why do we need Durant and Wiggins when we have a guy like Demar and he’s only 25 and earns a fair salary imagine what he will be in his prime which btw is soon
