If a point guard is the quarterback of the basketball court, then Jose Calderon is the kind of “game manager QB” that doesn’t have a great deep arm but he makes smart passes and rarely turns the ball over. He probably isn’t a top-10 PG, but he’s closer to that group than he is to the bottom 10. People who try to paint him as a glorified backup are just haters.

This year’s camp opens next Tuesday in Ottawa and the list of stiffs is short. Marcus Banks isn’t going to do anything except eat salary space and no one knows for sure what Sonny Weems can do, but there’s no question the Raptors have come a long way from a year ago this time.
