Bismack Biyombo sets career high with 20 rebounds

Bismack Biyombo set a new career high with 20 rebounds.

Bismack Biyombo set a new career high with 20 rebounds against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday.

Twenty boards tops Biyombo’s previous high of 18, which he set last week against the Charlotte Hornets. Biyombo had 10 rebounds in the first half Tuesday, taking advantage of JaVale McGee’s complete disinterest in boxing out, and added 10 more in the second half. Seven of his rebounds came on the offensive end, helping lead to nine points and two assists (he also had two blocks).

Donyell Marshall owns the franchise record with 24 rebounds in a game (Feb. 17, 2004), and Biyombo joins Marshall, Joey Dorsey, Jonas Valanciunas, Chris Bosh, Reggie Evans, Amir Johnson, Jerome Williams, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Popeye Jones as Raptors with 20 boards in a game.

Entering play Tuesday, Biyombo had grabbed 20.9 percent of available rebounds when on the court in the 15 games since Jonas Valanciunas went down with a fractured finger, the ninth-best rate in the NBA. On the season, he’s averaging 8.9 rebounds along with 5.4 points and 1.4 blocks.
