NBA and NBPA reach tentative deal on new CBA

No lockout!

This isn’t specifically Toronto Raptors-related, but it is excellent news for the league as a whole.

The NBA and NBPA have reached a tentative deal on a new collective bargaining agreement, the sides announced Wednesday.

They will extend the deadline for opting out of the current deal from Dec. 15 to Jan. 13, buying an extra month of time to vote to ratify the new agreement. Basically, the framework is done, and now both sides get some time to look everything over and vote to approve it. The reason for extending the deadline is so that neither side has to exercise the opt out, though it’s worth noting that the agreement is on a new CBA, the sides haven’t agreed to extend the current deal.

Once the deal is done and the Larry Coons of the world have had their way with it, we’ll provide a key points summary as they specifically relate to the Raptors. For now, the things to look out for will be the handling of D-League players and hybrid roster spots, the rules for contract extensions, how max contracts may be handled, and what will change with the rookie scale. But again, once the document is out and I’ve had a chance to read it and then read what smarter people got from reading it, we’ll give you the Raptors cliff notes.

This is awesome. No lockout. No lost games. No annoying offseason of daily updates and non-updates while we wait to hear when we’ll have games again.
