B+
P. Patterson27 MIN, 10 PTS, 7 REB, 2 AST, 4-6 FG, 2-4 3FG, 0-0 FT, 1 BLK, 0 TO, 5 +/-

Numbers don’t jump off the page, even though he hit his shots, and the best stretches for the starters came with him off the floor. But for once, the Raptors won the opening minutes of a game, and him getting the start at the 4 has to be considered part of that.

C+
D. Carroll32 MIN, 7 PTS, 3 REB, 2 AST, 2-9 FG, 1-6 3FG, 2-3 FT, 2 BLK, 1 TO, 21 +/-

+21 in 32 minutes is really good, and Carroll did some nice things. But, he also struggled to hit shots and looked really, really slow at points. Still, played big minutes in an important win.

A
J. Valanciunas24 MIN, 8 PTS, 11 REB, 1 AST, 4-10 FG, 0-0 3FG, 0-0 FT, 2 BLK, 2 TO, 19 +/-

His passing was fantastic tonight, and if Carroll had been on with his shot, the assist numbers would be much nicer. Was a big part of a couple runs for the team, and played within himself. Did have one ugly turnover against a double team.

A
N. Powell31 MIN, 19 PTS, 6 REB, 1 AST, 7-15 FG, 2-3 3FG, 3-3 FT, 0 BLK, 2 TO, 22 +/-

This would’ve been an A+, because Norm was really good, but I’m docking him a little bit for the number of times he got blocked at the rim tonight. Otherwise, continues to look great in DeMar’s absence.

A+
K. Lowry39 MIN, 32 PTS, 3 REB, 6 AST, 9-18 FG, 3-6 3FG, 11-14 FT, 0 BLK, 2 TO, 20 +/-

Can I give a higher grade than A+?

Simply put, he was the best player on the court. Made good things happen for the Raptors constantly, and kept the momentum going. Masterful performance.

B
C. Joseph29 MIN, 6 PTS, 2 REB, 5 AST, 3-6 FG, 0-0 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 2 TO, -1 +/-

Played within himself and distributed well. Had some weird lineups that he struggled with, including a stretch with him, Ross, Carroll, Siakam and Bebe that was really ugly for a few minutes in the third quarter.

Otherwise, not a bad game, didn’t jump out.

A
L. Nogueira24 MIN, 9 PTS, 5 REB, 0 AST, 4-7 FG, 0-0 3FG, 1-1 FT, 5 BLK, 3 TO, -3 +/-

Bebe has such a massive impact on the way teams attack the rim when he’s on the floor. Does a lot of little things to change the lanes of attack, and the five blocks were nice.

B-
T. Ross18 MIN, 4 PTS, 6 REB, 2 AST, 1-7 FG, 1-5 3FG, 1-2 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, -7 +/-

Terry really needs to find his shot again. The confidence still looks shot, but he worked hard tonight and did a good job grabbing boards, and picked up two assists along the way including a highlight reel fastbreak alley-oop to Nogueira. They’ll need his shooting at some point this year though.

Giving him the B- because I’m feeling generous with the losing skid over.

B
P. Siakam10 MIN, 4 PTS, 3 REB, 0 AST, 2-4 FG, 0-0 3FG, 0-0 FT, 1 BLK, 1 TO, -3 +/-

Was honestly surprised to see Siakam tonight, and he did ok in his minutes. Didn’t jump off the page, but was solid when the team needed him to be. Had a great blocked shot.

B+
F. VanVleet6 MIN, 3 PTS, 1 REB, 1 AST, 1-2 FG, 1-1 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, 7 +/-

Fred was good again tonight, and continues to earn the trust that Casey’s placed in him. Hit a big three, played solid defense, and played under control. It’ll be interesting to see how they integrate Delon going forward with how well Fred is playing.

B+
Dwane Casey

Didn’t like the group with Joseph, Ross, Carroll, Siakam and Bebe that I mentioned, and maybe JV sat too long after going out in the first quarter, but otherwise he did a great job tonight.

Things We Saw

  1. The offense doesn’t seem to miss DeRozan too much, but this is now 121 minutes for Lowry in the 3 games DeMar has missed. They’ll need him back soon, if for no other reason than so Lowry can stay in one piece.
  2. Giannis is a show. He put on another fantastic performance tonight, and is just so much fun to watch.
  3. Sullinger didn’t get minutes tonight, and it sounds like he’s been frustrated with his dismal play in recent games. Hopefully it’s a sign of him figuring some things out and working himself into game shape, and not a sign of re-injury.
