Raptors 905 are taking hits before the season even begins.
Kyle Wiltjer has signed a contract with Olympiacos of Greece, according to EuroHoopse.net. Wiltjer was in training camp with the Toronto Raptors and agreed to head to Raptors 905 shortly before the start of G-League training camp. Obviously, Olympiacos came with a late offer that was too good to pass up in hopes of an NBA call-up at some point this season.
The loss of Wiltjer could be a big one for the 905, who may now find themselves a little light on shooting. Wiltjer is an immense pick-and-pop threat who shot a high percentage on an obscene volume of 3-point attempts a year ago, and he figured to be a big part of a high-octane offensive frontcourt rotation with Kennedy Meeks and Edy Tavares. Instead, the 905 will now look to fill an additional roster spot from the nine players trying out in camp (there are now six spots available for that group).
This is the roster that the 905 had in camp prior to Wiltjer’s departure. He was inactive for the team’s preseason opener last night.
If the 905 aren’t happy with 12 bodies from this group, they could look to add via the G-League available player pool or hope that someone slips through into their lap with a middle-of-the-pack waiver priority.
