Fan Duel Toronto Raptors

Long Weekend Open Thread

Get some rest.

Everything with the Toronto Raptors is in a bit of a holding pattern until their search for a new head coach gets sorted out. Nothing can really happen until that’s sorted out, as it will dictate or point to at least some of the offseason direction. It’s also just kind of a big deal on its own.

With most of the NBA in Chicago for the Draft Combine right now, it seems likely that the Raptors could be casting a wide net for interviews under the radar in one place. We know they’ve interviewed their three internal candidates and that they had met with Mike Budenholzer before he landed with the Milwaukee Bucks. Will looked at what’s next on the podcast, while I went deep on other potential candidates at The Athletic and answered a bunch of coaching-related questions in a mailbag here. There’s not a ton more to say about it until we hear some names picking up steam. But you can let us know your preference:

For further reading, I wrote about OG Anunoby’s bright futurewhat each Raptor should focus on this summer, and answered non-coaching questions in a second mailbag.

With the NBA weirdly having a lull in their schedule and no games on Thursday or Friday, maybe it’s worth checking in on old friend Nando De Colo – whose rights the Raptors still hold – as he tries to lead CSKA Moscow to a Euroleague title. 888sport has De Colo and company as favorites over Real Madrid today. De Colo was named All-Euroleague First Team for the third consecutive year, by the way, and Canadian point guard Kevin Pangos got the nod on the Second Team (he’s in action today, too).

We’ll have you covered if any new news or rumors come down on the coaching search front over the weekend. Otherwise, we’ll be back Tuesday to kick off our player season review series. Enjoy the long weekend, everyone.
