This was the most shots Siakam has taken in a game in his career, and he was effective on offense, but he was trying to do too much defensive with all the guys out. When the Raptors are healthy his role will entirely change at that end in this matchup, so it’s hard to read too much into it.

O. Anunoby26 MIN, 5 PTS, 5 REB, 1 AST, 0 STL, 2-4 FG, 1-2 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 2 TO, -2 +/-

There were a few flashes of really good stuff from OG tonight, with him hitting a nice three and showing his quickness defensively, but ultimately Simmons and Butler got the better of him regularly and he wasn’t able to contribute enough offensively. Still, looks like he’s rounding into form of late.

D
G. Monroe22 MIN, 6 PTS, 8 REB, 1 AST, 0 STL, 3-7 FG, 0-0 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, -16 +/-

It’s not entirely Monroe’s fault. He’s being asked to play a role he’s not suited for, and Embiid is a tough cover. Tonight, though, he wasn’t quick enough to guard Embiid and got soundly beat in the matchup, and his foul trouble only compounded things for the team.

B
K. Lowry31 MIN, 20 PTS, 6 REB, 5 AST, 1 STL, 6-16 FG, 2-9 3FG, 6-6 FT, 1 BLK, 2 TO, -8 +/-

Lowry clearly isn’t entirely back from the injury, and it showed a little in this game as the shot wasn’t quite there and he didn’t look entirely comfortable, but he still managed a nice line and for a while kept the Raptors within range.

C
D. Green25 MIN, 9 PTS, 3 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 3-12 FG, 1-5 3FG, 2-2 FT, 0 BLK, 3 TO, -7 +/-

I’m not sure whether it’s because he’s still hurting or because of the change in responsibilities in this one, with him guarding Simmons and Butler more frequently, but this was a rough game for Danny. The shot wasn’t falling and he struggled at the defensive end.

F. VanVleet28 MIN, 12 PTS, 2 REB, 3 AST, 1 STL, 5-14 FG, 2-6 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, -18 +/-

The positive is that Fred hit some huge shots at points in this game, and the other side is that he just didn’t hit enough of them when they needed to, as the Sixers pulled away. Continues to look like he’s past his early season woes though.

N. Powell25 MIN, 13 PTS, 4 REB, 1 AST, 1 STL, 4-8 FG, 2-4 3FG, 3-3 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, -13 +/-

Really nice game from Norm. Played under control offensively, took advantage of what the defense gave him, and gave the Raptors some nice bursts. It’s great to see him finding himself.

D. Wright17 MIN, 4 PTS, 3 REB, 3 AST, 1 STL, 1-5 FG, 0-1 3FG, 2-4 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, -18 +/-

It’s not entirely clear to me why he isn’t getting more minutes when Kawhi is out, because the team really could’ve used his initiation at points when the offense struggled, but he also struggled to score in this one.

C. Miles12 MIN, 3 PTS, 0 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 1-4 FG, 1-4 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, -9 +/-

Aside from a nice hit on a contested three when the game was already decided, it’s hard to come up with much in terms of positive contributions from CJ here. He’s clearly frustrated and needs to figure out a way to find his shot to have a consistent role for the team.

C
L. Brown6 MIN, 0 PTS, 2 REB, 1 AST, 0 STL, 0-2 FG, 0-1 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, -5 +/-

After a few strong outings, maybe he should’ve got a few non-garbage minutes, but he didn’t in this one.

C
C. Boucher6 MIN, 0 PTS, 2 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 0-1 FG, 0-1 3FG, 0-0 FT, 1 BLK, 2 TO, -6 +/-

Great to see him get some playing time again, but maybe it could’ve come sooner with Monroe in foul trouble and Siakam struggling in the paint.

C
M. Richardson4 MIN, 3 PTS, 0 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 1-1 FG, 1-1 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -2 +/-

Hit a three in garbage time, otherwise not a notable game from Malachi.

The grade is mostly a push, this didn’t really feel in play for the Raptors, and there’s only so much you can do when you don’t have either of your rotation centers or Kawhi against a good opponent. Brought out the zone for a few good minutes again, but at the end of the day, this was about the Sixers being healthy and the Raptors not being healthy.

Things We Saw

  1. Tough sledding without the big guys for the Raptors. They clearly missed Jonas and Serge here, and they just couldn’t contain Embiid, which led to frequent help, which opened up the door for other Sixers to have big offensive games. Hard to compensate for that.
  2. No Kawhi was a problem against Ben Simmons. Simmons has struggled against Leonard, but without him, Simmons had free reign in this game and took advantage of every guy the Raptors sent at him.
  3. Shooting continues to be a problem for the Raptors, and might be something they have to look to address at some point if this keeps up. It’s possible that all the guys who are struggling correct course as the season goes, but the longer this continues the harder it is to bank on that.
  4. Four days off now before a game against Miami, and hopefully the Raptors can come into that one healthier and better rested.
