I’m changing my name to Durant Kevin. Let’s see how far I can take this.

Exciting news! John Salmons’ time as a member of the Toronto Raptors is (reportedly) over! In his stead, we get a combo guard who isn’t quite as effective as he once was and a promising young big. Take it away, Marc Stein and Adrian Wojnarowski:

So essentially, in a nice little turn of trick, Masai Ujiri managed to turn cap room into a one-year rental, and a former first-rounder.

Let’s start with Lou Williams. He’s a combo guard who hasn’t quite been the same since suffering a devastating ACL injury. Pre-injury, Williams was a crafty combo guard who could effectively create his own shot and handle the ball. He was one of the league’s best bench players between 2011-2013, averaging 14.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game while getting to the line a fair bit.

However, Williams went down with an ACL injury in 2013, which forced him out of action for approximately 10 months. He has since returned and stayed largely healthy, but is noticeably worse, especially in getting to the basket (and hence, the line). Check out the graph below:

graphAt 6-foot-2, under 200 pounds, he’s too small to guard any position other than point guard, but his purpose on the court is not to defend — he’s a scorer. Hopefully he can continue to do that. Hey, he’s much better than John Salmons at this point.

He has one more year left on his deal at $5.5 million. Essentially, the Raptors are taking a chance on him, hoping he returns to health. As I stated earlier, at his height, Williams was one of the league’s best bench scorers. He boasted a PER of 19.0 (near All-Star per-minute production) between 2010 and 2012. He used to be very good. Use #LouTrillVille to communicate your excitment on Twitter with your internet buddies. They’ll know.

Moving on, Nougiera is a prospect, perhaps best known for his hilarious draft-day appearance (pictured above). He’s a 21-year-old center that was drafted by the Hawks (via the Celtics) last year with the 16th overall pick. He has a 7-foot-6 wingspan (like Bruno) and is Brazilian (again, like Bruno).

Last season, he played in the Spanish ACB, averaging 6.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks  in 16.6 minutes per game. I’ve only seen a few minutes of Youtube highlights of him, but it certainly seems like he has potential. Last I checked, he was reportedly forgoing the last year of his contract in Europe to make his way to the NBA, but I’m not sure if his buyout process is complete as of yet. His buyout is $600,000, of which can be paid in full by the Raptors. He’ll be here next season.

Something else of note: he did suffer a bout of tendinitis in his knees last season, which kept him from play for 2 months.

Here’s his DraftExpress video. More video footage of Nogueria is available online. Also of note, his nickname is “Bebe”, so feel free to make your Hurricane jokes here.

The ramifications of this deal is two-fold. First, the Raptors just got better both in the short-run. In giving away Salmons’ cap room for one season, they’ve landed themselves an upgrade in Williams, who should, at worst, be a good ball-handler and decent shot-creator in a team bereft of both. Williams’ addition will not affect the Raptors’ ability to re-sign Lowry, Vasquez or Patterson as they own the Bird rights to all three, although it could press the Raptors closer to the luxury tax cap. The Raptors should also have the full Mid-Level Exception, worth around $5 million, if they want to get any more upgrades.

Second, it brightens the team’s long-term prospects. Salary flexibility is maintained for 2015, as Williams will be expiring along with Fields and Hayes, which comes out to ~$20 million. Meanwhile, this also nets a prospect for the future. Nougeira is really young, has flashed signs of being a decent rim-defender, and has good size. He’s a little light at the moment, but I’m sure he’ll fill out once he gets into an NBA training regimen. He’s the same age as Jonas.

The move also makes sense for Atlanta, who look poised to make their move. It’s not like the Hawks got fleeced or anything. There’s a clear motive in their actions here. Shedding Williams and a Nogueria sheds about $6-7 million in salary for next season, which gives them over $20 million in cap room to chase a superstar. With Al Horford, Jeff Teague, Kyle Korver, Paul Millsap and a cadre of capable role-players, the Hawks are one star away from joining the upper echelon of the East. Of course, that could be said for just about every team in the conference. But keep your eye on Atlanta. They could be really, really good next season.

TL;DR: Raptors trade away one year of cap space, pick up a better player, a first-rounder, while not compromising future salary considerations. Masai gonna Masai

  • Andre

I like the deal… I like Lucas Nugiera!!! Lou williams is ok…

  • Saskatoon Raps Fan

    Fuck yes

  • Andrew

Why the hell would you trade Bebe and Williams for Salmons? I know it saves money and lets you be able to go after Lebron (and maybe Melo too if you make some other cap clearing moves), but do you really think you have a chance? No. You just traded a good 6th man and a mid first round pick basically in Bebe for…nothing. Why the Hawks are still the Hawks.

    • GoingBig

The hope is for 2nd or 3rd in the East (behind whatever team LeBron is on)
Key factors – Quality Free Agent, Antonio Davis, getting Asik, Teague, Millsap, Kyle Korver, returning Al Horford

Peachtree Hoops blog has a discussion from their side
      http://www.peachtreehoops.com/2014/6/29/5855790/lou-williams-lucas-nogueira-atlanta-hawks-john-salmons

      Some Quotes from the article
“It has been no secret that the Atlanta Hawks have been shopping Lou Williams and his $5+ million expiring contract for quite some time.”
“having to move Nogueira and his considerable upside just to clear the decks seems to be an incredibly high price to pay”
“It remains to be seen what GM Danny Ferry plans to do with this newfound cap flexibility, but ridding the roster of Nogueira will be a highly scrutinized decision unless a “big” move is on the way.”

To summarize, GM Danny Ferry will have to produce a big free agent in order for this deal not to be seen as a fail.

      • Jensan

When did Antonio Davis and getting Asik join the Hawks, they play for New Orleans.

        • GoingBig

          D’oh
          They’re kinda southish

    • WhiteVegas

The Hawks have to be one of the favorites to get Melo. They can pay him the max and have an extremely good team around him with an amazing coach in a big market that players love. Teague – Korver – Melo – Milsap – Horford is a very solid starting five, and Atlanta has a solid bench too.

  • Thomas

Man, Masai Ujiri is a genius

I agree, he is a very smart guy, that is why I have no opinion about his pick. He knows something that we can’t even make a good guess at…lol

    • jakdripr

Atlanta are probably going to waive him in an attempt to make a play at a free agent. I hope they can pull someone, but I doubt Melo, Lebron, or Stephenson would be interested.

      • WhiteVegas

I think Melo goes to Atlanta. They’ll be a championship contender with him, and can offer him the max.

        • CJT

          you mean unlike Chicago?

        • jakdripr

I just don’t see Melo passing up on playing with Rose, and leaving New York, for Atlanta. It’ll be quite the surprise if that happens. I think they might get Deng actually, they’ve had better luck with second tier free agents(ala Paul Millsap and Lou Williams).

I just want better teams in the East, shit is embarrassing right now.

    • #TankNation

How did Masai just fleece Atlanta? Atlanta did it for salary cap savings, which is a perfectly good justification for the trade from their perspective.

  • JD

At first, I wasn’t sure how Lou would fit in if both Lowry and Vasquez are back. But it actually makes total sense for the 2nd unit.

On offense, Greivis runs the point and Lou is the off-guard.
On defense, Lou guards the point Greivis guards the off-guard.

    Brilliant.

    • asifyouknow

JD God bless you brother but Lowry and Vaz are coming back…sorry buddy…

I’m sorry I meant to say They are NOT coming back…sorry

          • Steverino

Why do some fans insist on pretending they know what’s going to happen? I guess they’ve got a 50-50 chance of being right. But in the 50% chance they’re wrong, they lose all credibility for future predictions. Predictions are for fools.

            • asifyouknow

Been called worse…lol..But at least remember who told you and give me shout-out…lol

              • Steverino

It’s not like you’re the only person saying it. Plus, you have a 50% chance of being right so you’re not going to get a shout-out if Lowry goes. It’s the certainty you pretend to have that is galling, not the guesswork.

            • Mexiballer

I wonder if he causes as much head shaking on the Spur’s forums.

      • Pdat

he’s talking about the second unit. demar is the off guard on the first unit

      • Saskatoon Raps Fan

I really don’t think we will lose vaz if Lowry goes. I mean he’s an RFA, without Lowry the raps will have to seriously consider matching any reasonable offer sheet he signs. I still don’t think Lowry leaving is a done deal tho either

      • Milesboyer

Absolutely no way both Lowry and Vasquez are gone. Maybe one, hopefully neither but if Lowry, the most likely one to leave, is gone, I am 100% sure Vasquez will be retained.

  • asifyouknow

Williams is a needed move, they can now sign DeColo and maybe go get another SG/PG and be in good shape to rebuild..
Guys MU dismantling and rebuild is in full force……so be prepared to be in the bottom for awhile.. They are not putting last year band together..

    • DDayLewis

What are you talking about? Shedding Salmons is not a rebuild, especially considering they got a better player in Williams.

      • asifyouknow

Agree, but I’m 99.9% certain Kyle is not coming back and Vaz is not coming to play for Casey, I don’t know if MU is going to pay Patterson much more than the Q offer, think about it Lou, Patterson sort of had a mini-break out year, teams noticed, he is going to get a good offer.
We can at least agree that Hans, Landry, and the two guards that I don’t remember their names without looking it up are not going to be part of this MU Raptors.
The only ones safe are JV and DeMar and maybe Amir. Ross would be traded for the right deal.

        • Dev

If Lowry leaves vaz will most likley stay because he will get to start baring any big pg splash. Your statements are pretty bold bruh

          • asifyouknow

Guys Casey had no choice but to play Vaz, I don’t know haw many times I have to tell you guys he is just too slow for Casey’s plan.
Casey wants a shut-down guy at PG, Casey don’t give a darn if they score, he believes he can win in the NBA with a score around 60 to 58 pts., you know like they do in college.
You know why they got DeColo? because he wanted to replace Vaz and he gave DeColo every opportunity to get the job, hell Vaz had night with 8 minutes and a stretch where he would play about 12, but DeColo could not shoot or run the offense so Casey had no choice.
Vaz would be a fool to come back and play for Casey because coach would be looking for an excuse to bench him, the guy don’t let Vaz play his game, do you know this coach don’t like the no look passes and alley-oops dunks, tha is part of Vaz game. The guy is still coaching like in the sixties.
Oh well my rant…lol only an opinon

            • Dev

Dude you have no insider info to back up any of this retarded shit your talking. Your on some next shit

            • asifyouknow

              Something I posted this winter:

“I think Vaz is once again in the wrong place because of the coach. I know DC said he loves Vaz but this is not his guy, Casey wants a strict defensive player, Vaz is an offensive improviser, that is not Casey’s game , hell he doesn’t even like the no-look pass, that came right from Casey’s mouth, when is the last time you’ve seen an alley oop? That play was a part of the offense with Davis, Lopez and Vasquez in New Orleans.”
As soon as I find the video where he said that I will link it…

              • CJT

That’s hilarious. You’re quoting YOURSELF as a back up to your assumptions. HAHAHAHA

                • asifyouknow

NO I’m quoting the fact that CASEY is on record saying that …as soon as I find the clip I’ll post the link….

            • ZSS

You do realize that Vazquez is an RFA, right? He’ll be back if the Raps want him back.

            • Jensan

Why than would Toronto make an offer for DeColo for next year, when we could sign Patty Mills from the Spurs who is an unrestricted agent?

            • Milesboyer

You do realize that Dwayne Casey – the same guy you’re talking about, played Vasquez a lot more than DeColo last season/playoffs right. According to you, someone must have been forcing him to but whoever was giving that mandate won’t this year? Your logic is illogical.

            • GoingBig

Casey always wants a lock-down PG.
What he got was a bench PG that could generate points and cause problems for the enemy defence. In the play-offs, with JV OK but TRoss disappeared, he was happy to have GV – even tried him against Johnson (GV’s height vs. Johnson’s strength(not speed))

              • asifyouknow

                I hope you’re right but I don’t think so…

        • DDayLewis

That’s a whole lot of assumptions. I could, for example, assume the opposite, which would mean they’re all coming back.

Look, as I said in the post, this move doesn’t affect their financial ability to retain their three free-agents, and it makes the team better in the short-run. You would think that the move would then improve their chances of retaining their guys, no?

          • asifyouknow

We should know something by next week or two.. Interesting to see who guessed wrong and who guessed right….lol.. as you know I’m a 25 year Spurs fan but I like JV, Amir and DeMar. I have NBA TV so I can watch all the games.
I will keep watching Raptors even if Vaz don’t come back…So I hope for the best for the team…

        • Moewrawn

Eat a dick. Seriously, fans like you are really starting to piss me off. Wahh waaah were so certain Kyle will leave us. Seriously shut the F up, yes we’ve lost stars before mainly because our team sucked and was poorly managed. Kyle is not leaving, I guarantee it.

          • asifyouknow

Dude this is a conversation between reasonable folks about a game…you want to go with vulgar insults .. fair enough ..I’m sorry I engaged you in a conversation. .won’t happen again my apologies…

        • noname

First of all, the only rumours about lowry have been pure bullshit (except for lakers rumours but aint no way in hell he’s going there). He’s already shown signs he wants to stay. As for Vasquez and Patterson, they each blatantly stated “I hope I’m back next year” and we have heard the reports about Masai saying he will go after them to get their deals done before signing anyone else…in conclusion, no we are not rebuilding, but there will be a few changes to the roster (there already has).

          • asifyouknow

Noname the good thing is that by Tuesday we will know a lot more…and we can all comeback and have fun with who ever was right and who ever was wrong. Maybe we can elect “The best guesser of the year award” I hope I’m in the running..LMAO…;)

            • Saskatoon Raps Fan

            • noname

hahaha I hope you were being sarcastic though… oh my if you end up being right a lot of people are going to flip shit on this site.

        • MoPeteRules

You typically post a lot of ridiculous comments, but this was most likely one of the most ridiculous. Do you ever notice that virtually no one ever agrees with you? And it’s not because anyone is arbitrarily hating on you, it’s because you convince yourself of some pretty delusional scenarios, and by this point you have a reputation of being so laughably wacky that no one would even want to agree with you. And how you can be so confident and matter of fact with your jibberish makes it so easy and satisfying to discredit you.

          • Abused Raptors Fan

Completely agree. Although anyone who’s been on this site for awhile shouldn’t be surprised about such comments, as he’s been saying that Lowry and Vasquez won’t be Raptors next season for months..

        • Jensan

Stone and Buycks are the two other guards. Landry cannot be bought out. Amir will be re-upped the buy-out is 5 million dollars for his 7 million salary, so that wont happen

    • Feather Ruffler

    • noname

dude williams is probably gonna be Demar’s bench sub. And Noguiera hopefully solves the Backup C problem. If anything this probably means de colo is gone. Either that or he’ll find a way to get rid of buycks and stone to make room on the roster for de colo. The lineup might be like this:
Lowry/Vasquez/De colo (either 3rd string pg or sg)
      Demar/Williams
      Ross/Fields/Bruno
      2Pat/Amir/Novak
      JV/Noguiera
This trade is awesome, it makes us better at the price of getting rid of the ENTIRE salary of a guy we wanted to waive.

      • Mexiballer

We dont know if Noguiera is ready for N.B.A. minutes. Im not being negative. We just dont know. He may be another project.

  • leftovercrack

I wonder why Atlanta is doing this? A bit of cap space? In the NFL for many players it takes two years to fully recover from ACL surgery. It could be that last year Williams wasn’t fully healthy but this year he will be. Great deal for the Raps, maybe a steal. Even if they cut Salmons don’t the Hawks still have to pay him about $1 million? And Williams’ salary is $5.5 million, so basically they are giving up Williams and Nugiera for $4.5 million in savings? It smells funny….

    • Mexiballer

Yeah. Thats exactly why they would do it. Salary cap space.

      • leftovercrack

My issue was that it doesn’t seem like that much cap space to get in exchange for giving up a decent 7′ prospect and a guy that if he gets healthier could be a useful bench player. Maybe the Hawks are about to make some big FA push and were desperate for space.

        • Mexiballer

Yeah. Jon Salmons is like an instant expiring contract for anyone. And from Atlanta’s perspective Lou Williams did have a career low shooting percentage at 40%. And who knows about Nigeria. I just glad Bruno will have someone to talk to and can hopefully be an on court translator for him. I like Lou Williams. I like the trade. Low risk, good potential reward.

          • leftovercrack

I love this trade, just trying to get my head around why Atlanta would do it. Useful pieces for a guy we were going to release. With their exceptional physical tools, if either Bruno or Bebe can make it in the NBA this offseason will have been a success

    • Andre

I read a report that he will be release for $1 million. So they save paying lou and Lucas money this year. Maybe atlanta is making a play for melo, labron or even wade..

    • Saskatoon Raps Fan

Hey man, Masai just turned John salmons into a first round pick at a position of need, and a legit 6th man (I think he comes back stronger another yr removed from the acl), I hope everyone is far too excited to notice any errors. I appreciate the awesome work. Thanks for getting it posted so fast on a Sunday evening.

      • DDayLewis

No problem! This is pretty exciting, even if it’s for a maybe bench-guy.

        • jakdripr

Yea I’m watching videos of the Lucas kid, he’s got potential. He seems like a solid shot blocker, but there’s no footage of him in the NBA so it’s hard to gauge. Worst case scenario he’s 5 fouls and a body for when JV is forced to the bench.

          • johng_3

He played on Atlanta’s summer league team

            • jakdripr

I guess I don’t really give the summer league a lot of credit. But you’re right, he did, there’s a video of him getting like 5 blocks in one game. So it definitely seems like he has good instincts when it comes to timing his swats.

I have seen Nougeira Noguiera Nugiera Nougeria…..

    • DDayLewis

      Just call him “Bebe”.

      Bebe and Bruno.

      • JD

But then it reminds me too much of Glen Davis…

Lucas Riva? That’s how his Twitter goes.

      • Mexiballer

        Bruno and Bebe from Brazil.

        • RPT23

Not exactly but, The Killa B’s!

        • Jensan

Did not Dejuan Blair have bad knees (no meniscus) and survive playing in the NBA for a number of years

  • Daniel

    GENIUS!! GO RAPS GO!!

  • Mauricio Corrêa

Not only one, but two brazilians on my team! I’m soooooo freaking happy!

On unrelated news, I read “Baby” when I read the news, and I thought Hoffa was back. I almost died. lol

And “Bebê” means Baby. lol again

    …Suddenly the Raptors have a 2013 1st round pick!

    Praise Masai

    • johng_3

…And a friend for Bruno to talk to

  • Mexiballer

Does anyone know what Noguiera’s numbers were in Spain?

    • DDayLewis

“Last season, he played in the Spanish ACB, averaging 6.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 16.6 minutes per game.”

      • ad

If he was that good, I dont think ATL would have given him away as a throw in but what do I know. At least bruno will have a buddy on the team

        • Mexiballer

Exactly. Hes raw. He may work out…he may not work out. But yeah..Bruno has a buddy. They can hit the Vegas strip together on July 11th.

        • rapierraptor

Atlanta is supposedly worried about his knees

          • Mexiballer

Yeah. In the article I posted it said that at one point he had really bad tendinitis in both knees.

  • ad

This is a good trade. At his best, Lou Williams is a slightly worse version of Jamal Crawford. This limits salary flexibiltiy this offseason but they never were going to have much if lowry, patt, and vaz resigned. Next offseason they will have lots of $ coming off the books (Durant?) They get the best player and a decent prospect for john salmons. Good deal.

    • truth be told

Slightly worse than 6th man of the year? Not quite.

  • Mexiballer
  • rapierraptor

My best friend is German. We watched all of the Hawks summer league games so that we could see Dennis Schröder. We came away really surprised with Bebe. His timing was excellent in terms of blocking shots, put back dunks and grabbing rebounds. Yes he is raw but he was productive. Supposedly the Hawks were worried about the health of his knees and his frame is dangerously slight so that makes sense. I know Jonas looked like Wilt last summer so I shouldn’t take too much stock in it all but Nogueira has stuck in my head as a guy to remember for the last year and I think Raptors fans will like what they see.

  • keith

This is the Masai moves we all know and love. I’m surprised he didn’t also get a 1st pick included. He is awesome. I had some complaints about picking in the lottery thursday. It was nothing against Bruno trust me. I’m excited to see the kid play.
But these are the types of moves I love seeing. Nougiera is promising as back up to Jonas. Lou could be a nice bench guy. These are going to help this team this year. And Nougiera would be a great teammate to join with Bruno to help him get acclimated. Hopefully when Lowry signs, and im thinking Masai ain’t done after this with trades, we’ll see a solid team that will have less holes than last year.I might question one move but on the whole, Masai is killing it!

    • keith

I thought that name was wrong but I followed the author, so be it.

I have to say, Masai has done more than any GM in Toronto’s history that all GM’s combined, all within one year. Bruno, made me freak out a bit, like all of us I frantically checked the internet and found little to be excited about. But I like the most recent move. Lou Williams torched Toronto Many times in Raptor history, it’s only a matter of time until he shakes the nerves from his ACL, look of Shawn Livingston. I’ve always wanted Lou to be a Raptor, can’t believe it happened. Nougiera is looking like a fine prospect, amazing Rim protection, looks faster on his feet than Jonas, just my humble observation.

    • Jensan

Wasn’t Shawn a micro fracture issue initially?

      • Heyjoe

I don’t think that Livingstone’s injury was the result of a micro fracture, pretty sure his knee just blew up after an awkward landing off a lay up.

Bebe has 2 arthritic knees…..a death sentence for a 7 footer ask Andrew Bynum….Val is light ears ahead of Bebe in terms of being a NBA player but if you like your players raw like Sushi then Bebe & Bruno are your guys. Maybe in 4-5 years they will both be rotation NBA players….if they are still in the NBA in 4-5 years…

      • keith

Andrew Bynum has arthritic knees because he had surgery on them many times. He has had a history of knee issues for a long time. Read more before you bash the kid off of fan stories!

He’s a T.R.O.L.L…. leave him and his comments where they belong… under a bridge with the rest of the garbage lol

Salmons averaged 5.2 points and 2.1 rebounds in 78 games last season, splitting time between the Raptors and Sacramento Kings.

Williams averaged 10.4 points and 3.5 assists in 60 games for the Hawks last season.

  • Xtremenator1

So are we all in a video game or something? It’s like Masai’s on NBA 2K and forcing trades all over the place. My god this guy… I am almost 100% sure Patterson and Vasquez will both sign as they love it here. Not sure about Lowry though, guy’s been really flaky… He says he loves the city, yet he’s always quiet whenever contract talks come up. Yeah he likes the city, but so did Chris Bosh. But if they do resign Lowry as well, and perhaps buyout Hansborough so they’d get an extra $2 Million, they could effectively pursue Trevor Ariza (unless Ariza isn’t asking for much, they might not have to buyout Hansborough). This would put their starters at Lowry, Derozan, Ariza, Johnson, and Valunciunas. With the bench of Vasquez, Williams, Ross, Patterson, and Hayes. They may use their mid level exception to sign a center? Or Masai could pull off another miracle.

If they do add Ariza though, and get everybody signed, then man they may have the best overall team in the East.

    • Truth Teller

CB lost in Toronto. If Lowry resigns he will be able to take the Raptors further in the weak east. CB had no shot with that crap team.

      • Xtremenator1

So then what about Vince and TMac, both said they loved Toronto. Even in recent interviews with McGrady regretting he ever left.

        • Truth Teller

Tmac hated toronto. He complained how only curling was on at the time he was a raptor. He regretting was after the fact.

Vince played when the East was stronger. Also Babcock didn’t need to trade him for nothing.

    • IceManLikeGervin

Lowry is not resigning and Ariza is not coming here. Ariza has other suitors lined up Washington (Martell Webster back injury makes resigning Ariza a top priority), Houston, Dallas, Detroit, LAC and Phoenix. Reality check.

      • noname

        how you feel now?

        • IceManLikeGervin

I feel good!! (James Brown voice)

Lowry came back for $12 million a season more than anyone else offered him.

Still, Ariza won’t be coming here….

          • noname

unless if masai pulls a crazy trade to clear cap space (like landry fields for a d-leaguer) but that might not happen.

            • IceManLikeGervin

Fields needs to go with his cross dressing Nikki Minaj self……if Masai can trade him I might overlook the Bruno selection….for now…..

              • noname

Or you could just overlook the bruno selection on your own in a few years if he goes ham.

              • noname

also, I heard that we can waive him using the stretch provision…but masai hasn’t done that. I am beginning to wonder whether he’s even trying to trade him. Maybe he suspects that fields is gonna have a great year this year, completely fix his shot and return to his rookie season form, then Masai will resign him for 3 mil per…loooool nah.

  • FAQ

Don’t be surprised if Masai trades Demar for a whole bagful of first round picks 2015-16-17. Now if he could only find one legit Canuck….

  • Truth Teller

Before injury he was good. I guess he can’t be as bad a chucker as Salmons.

  • IceManLikeGervin

I’ll take a wait and see approach with this deal but it more than likely means Lowry is as good as gone as a free agent. Bebe is raw with bad knees & Lou Williams hasn’t been the same since his injury. Hopefully Lou Williams will regain some of his old 76ers era form. 2 Brazilians but no Canadians on ‘Canada’s Team’ roster? I mean there are some Canadian prospects just as raw as Bruno & Bebe….really now…

    • Jensan

Takes 15 months to recover from ACL, so cool your jets.Did you not hear Canada and Brazil have a free trade agreement, and Brazilian Basketball players are now considered Canadians (LOL_)

    • keith

IceMan, you make it sound like Nogueira has no ACL’s like Dejuan Blair. He had severe tendinitis, back in December. The article you posted even talks as if its semi-serious.

I think a more accurate report came out in March, 3 months after he was diagnosed and went to rehab in Atlanta on it. It says this, “Finally, Lucas Nogueira returned to action in Spain. The Hawks’ first-round draft pick, returned to action for his Spanish
League team Sunday. The center had eight points, of 4 of 4 shooting, and
five rebounds in 14 minutes as Asefa Estudiantes Madrid defeated Bilboa
      Basket 86-80.”

      http://www.ajc.com/weblogs/atlanta-hawks/2014/mar/02/game-thread-scott-starts-vs-suns/

true it is concerning and the fact he is rail thin doesn’t help, but instead of sounding like he is done how about sounding like he might be a few years away from being a decent rotation player. I agree he might not pan out but he still has a chance to prove he is capable, and when he does play he is pretty special on the court. He just needs to gain some muscle and strengthen those legs to withstand a full season. I am as confident in him as I am of Chuck Hayes continuing to be our backup center. Bruno and Bebe are raw, but I won’t write either of them off yet. I personally would prefer guys who can help this year off the bench but I will embrace the promise for now.

      • IceManLikeGervin

Lou Williams had knee surgery in 2014 as well. Bebe’s knees are a serious issue believe it or not. 2 raw ass prospects a few years away from being a potential NBA rotation players (potential gets folks fired) just what the Raptors needed…I thought drafting raw ass full of potential HS aged kids like Bruno was over with?

    • Guest

      Great trolling. Really.

    • GoingBig

What does this have to do with Lowry leaving?? Nothing.
Try to get Williams going, get another prospect to grow or trade, clear cap space in two years
And that cap space in two years means shopping for Free Agents – if Lowry signs, he’s got that to look forward to – something to stay for

      • IceManLikeGervin

Lowry is not resigning if Miami can offer near the same amount $$….bet on it….the future is not guaranteed- didn’t the BC era teach you anything? I deal in the now when it comes to Raptors basketball. Last thing we need with Bruno is another raw ass prospect but Bruno can’t speak English so gotta get him a interpreter teammate or 2 (Scott Machado summer league signing) on the roster ASAP to translate. Future Miami Heat NBA championships- something to leave for……..

        • GoingBig

Even after Wade & Bosh make their cut-rate sacrificial contracts – there is not enough money for Lowry – $8MM at most – because the Heat have to add 5 to 8 more legitimate NBA players.

There might be a team that goes bonkers and over-overpays, but the Heat have no money.

          • IceManLikeGervin

Fair enough. Masai has to keep Lowry he can’t afford to let him get away as a free agent in my mind. Lowry has to make a choice I can see him leaving or staying but I still think he may leave unless Masai gives him more than 10 million a year to stay…I want him to stay…time will tell.

    • johng_3

Is that your job? You look for articles to search for ways to downplay everything. I think we found our new Tim W.

360 fm in espanol and ingles..I’m loving that station Toronto:

Listen to Vasquez interview, my take:

He said he loves the cultural diverse environment in Toronto, he loves the school system for his kids. he wants to stay here “BUT”… here is the talking points:

He realizes this is a business and the deal has to be beneficial to both.

The answer by Vaz to a direct yes or no question (proud of the host) about -if- he was going to take the offer was “Is questionable”

He further explained that it CAN NOT be a one year deal- he made that very clear – It has to be a multi year deal. He wants to set roots in a place long term.

That answer made me wonder if that is all Toronto wants from Vaz, In other words it sounds like Toronto doesn’t want to do a long term deal. I happen to believe they want Vaz as a stop gap guy for a year and not a 3 to 4 plan.

This was a very telling interview if you read between the lines. Go and listen to it, if you know Spanish it probably be helpful but they do go from one language to the other often.
