Grandstand Highlight of the Night: DeMar DeRozan stays hot early

The fan-made highlight of the night, brought to you by Grandstand.

DeMar DeRozan is quite decidedly “on one” of late.

The reigning Eastern Conference Player of the Week entered play Sunday having scored 20-plus in six consecutive games, a span during which he’s averaged 26.8 points on 50-percent shooting. He’s also added 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.5 steals during that span while putting immense pressure on opposing defenses with 10 free-throw attempts per-game.

There was no cooling him off early against the Sacramento Kings, no matter how much Ben tried to Mackle. DeRozan finished the first half with 18 points and five rebounds, hitting 6-of-12 from the floor and 6-of-6 at the line. How tough a check was DeRozan early? McLemore was all up in the jersey on this play and DeRozan still stuck the jumper.

McLemore’s best bet at that point may be to take a page from the Macklemore playbook and start whispering weird things into DeRozan’s ear. “Who’s basketball is that? That’s right, that’s DeMar DeRozan’s basketball.”

DeRozan finished with 28 points on 10-of-24 shooting with seven rebounds, an assist, and two steals in 35 minutes.
