Pascal Siakam out for five months due to shoulder surgery

Toronto's hoping this is the last bit of bad news they receive in 2021. Siakam will likely miss training camp but could be ready at the start of next season.

In a statement on Twitter, the Raptors announced that Pascal Siakam underwent a successful surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. According to the same statement, the injury was obtained on May 8 in a game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Recovery and rehabilitation time is estimated to be approximately five months, which would likely cause Siakam to miss training camp. However, five months from now would be October 11 – a little over a week before the NBA would like to begin the 2021-22 campaign.

The league announced yesterday that although the last two seasons were shifted and adjusted due to COVID-19, officials are planning a return to regularly scheduled programming, with a hopeful regular season tip-off date of October 19.

Siakam appeared in 56 of the 72 games that Toronto played during the 2020-21 season, with averages of 21.4 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.

Last season was the first time in seven years that the Raptors missed the playoffs.
