Golden State Warriors 98 Final
Recap | Box Score
104 Toronto Raptors
Amir Johnson, PF Shot Chart 30 MIN | 4-9 FG | 1-2 FT | 9 REB | 5 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 9 PTS | +7

Quiet and consistent. Came out of his shell in the 4th with the game on the line: rolling to the basket while making a huge target for people to hit him with passes, and sticking to Lee like white on rice. I really have nothing much else to say, he was somewhat absent from my game notes.

Landry Fields, SF Shot Chart 25 MIN | 4-5 FG | 0-0 FT | 6 REB | 0 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 8 PTS | -6

Not worth the money, but he can be an asset when not hobbled by injury. Displayed a lot of his “awareness” on offense: never standing around idle, always cutting to the rim, and make big targets on those cuts. Rebounding was huge and very much needed. Not sure why he didn’t get off the bench in the 4th, but played very well when he got the time. The Raptors can use him on this stretch run if this is what they will be getting.

Jonas Valanciunas, C Shot Chart 23 MIN | 5-6 FG | 0-0 FT | 5 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 3 TO | 10 PTS | -2

At some point he’s going to need to finish a game, and not just any game, but a tight one where he made a contribution to the win. Was very hesitant on offense, and for all the movement and flailing limbs he throws up when it’s time to rebound, you expect him to have a better nose for the ball. I know I’m being rough, and blah blah blah five-years for a big man to develop but I have two words for you: Andre Drummond.

Kyle Lowry, PG Shot Chart 31 MIN | 3-13 FG | 4-4 FT | 3 REB | 8 AST | 2 STL | 0 BLK | 2 TO | 13 PTS | +7

Not sure where his head was at, but he wasn’t fully engaged for most of the game. The stats were there, but just a little more of what he usually brings could have meant a little less of Vasquez trying to do too much with the ball; my nerves would have appreciated that.

DeMar DeRozan, SG Shot Chart 42 MIN | 10-16 FG | 11-12 FT | 4 REB | 6 AST | 1 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 32 PTS | +12

The definition of letting the game come to you. Everything was in the flow of the game, and against a very tough defender in Igoudala. As the plays became more important, and the game came down to the wire, he was there making big shot after big shot. There’s a reason he’s starting to get those superstar calls on the floor: dude is making a very strong case.

Tyler Hansbrough, PF Shot Chart 14 MIN | 2-2 FG | 2-3 FT | 5 REB | 0 AST | 0 STL | 1 BLK | 0 TO | 6 PTS | -1

Loved how he paired with Patterson to give the Raptors a much needed boost off the bench in the 1st half in the front court, and just kept crashing the offensive glass with reckless abandon. He chased down everything and was rewarded with put-backs.

Patrick Patterson, PF Shot Chart 29 MIN | 4-10 FG | 2-2 FT | 5 REB | 1 AST | 1 STL | 1 BLK | 2 TO | 12 PTS | +7

He came through in the clutch in a game that wasn’t promised to the Raptors.; the Raptors don’t win this game without Patterson’s effort in the 4th. His shooting in the 1st half left something to be desired, but the defensive was there throughout.

John Salmons, SF Shot Chart 20 MIN | 1-5 FG | 0-0 FT | 1 REB | 3 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 0 TO | 2 PTS | -2

That pass he thread to a rolling Amir in the paint with 2:30 left out of the timeout was ridiculous. Otherwise he did what was needed of him: calming veteran presence off the bench to help keep the wheels on in a game that could have got out of hand at any moment.

Greivis Vasquez, PG Shot Chart 23 MIN | 5-13 FG | 0-0 FT | 0 REB | 4 AST | 0 STL | 0 BLK | 1 TO | 12 PTS | +10

Had alternating stretches of pretty good, and pretty bad. I’m having a hard time being subjective with Greivis since I’m not a fan, but you can’t argue that he had no business taking 7 threes.

Dwane Casey

In all fairness he was missing Ross who is tailor made for this sort of game, but his management of Fields in the 2nd half was sketchy (could have used more of Fields and less of Vasquez at the end of the 3rd and beginning of the 4th. Called timely timeouts, and drew up real plays that the Raptors executed out of them.

Great video can’t wait for the playoffs

    • victorybaby

Excellent video! Like and share everybody and hopefully it can be featured on TSN sometime this season.

    • Tamberlyn Richardson

LOVE your video; wish you had ended it with the TRoss dunk over Manimal though as I feel that would punctuate your point!

    • jjdynomite

Subscribed. Keep it up TDot Mix. Loved the focus on Ross, he’s so fun to watch. Missed him the past 1.5 games.

BTW, Sam et al, if the Raps had the outlier Big Drummond over JV = no Ross.

    • Nilanka15

      Great stuff, dude!

    • DC

Perfect description of the culture and what it brings to the city and country!

    • Plus

Awesome! Shared it on my fb page.

  • or nah?

Beatiful game by DD and the raptors! Fields fit in nicely for Ross.

  • jakdripr

I just want to say that watching that game made me so proud that derozan is a raptor. I mean it’s not just the 32 points, it’s the growth season after season. Heck even over the course of this season we’ve seen continuous growth and improvement in his game. Mad respect to the kid, hope he keeps it up.

Also, sick game, the defence in those final 2-3 minutes were just a sight to behold. Big win from the team, now we can get a nice rest and maybe get Ross back.

    • StabbyRaccoon

Not only is he a Raptor and a star, he’s on a long term contract! Bryan Colangelo strikes again with his eternal wisdom. And by the way Landry Fields played tonight it’s probably safe to say that Bryan was right on that one too. Masai has big shoes to fill.

      • robertparish00

two words to put it into context….Il Mago.

        • StabbyRaccoon

the magician, who could make the Raptors’ cap space disappear in an instant!

      • jakdripr

lol I hope you’re trolling. I give credit to BC for drafting Demar, Ross and JV, and I give him props for signing DD to a really nice contract. But Landry fields? Andrea? Rudy Gay? Linas Kleiza? Hedo Turgkolu? I mean the list of bad decisions goes on and on. I give him props for his drafting though, he was pretty on point with that.

        • StabbyRaccoon

yeah despite a pretty damn good starting lineup that were absolutely awful because of the overall weakness of the team. Was definitely trolling čśÇ

    • Team

JV sucks , Vazquez sucks, Golden State is the better team , writers on this site gotta hate , just one continuos round of pleasure when your a Raptor fan . RR Staff – New writers please.

      • morgan c

They represent a diversity of views, I think, and give objective analysis for the most part. Personally, I think Casey HAS to put JV back in the game more in the second half, after he came out of the gate on fire. And this is coming from someone who is quick to be hard on JV.

      • Phat AlberG

JV had 10 and 5 in 23 mins, the kid played good, and you need to remember he’s a kid. Once he gets the physicality tools like Tyler, he is going to be a problem to deal with. Cause to me he has very similar to game to Joakim Noah, but a little more offensive, and Noah was not setting the world on fire with his stat lines either in first 2 years of the league.

        • Guest

And Drummond comparison is so asinine. In 4 years when Drummond’s knees have had a pounding and he turns into Amare people will act confused or something.

    • Haim not Feldman

Ball! Great team win indeed especially after a tough loss. The Raps
instead of gazing at their shoes after heartbreakers such as Portland,
Chicago and Washington are instead developing a mental toughness that
was absent in previous years. Props to Coach Casey.

  • Raymond

Sounds like if Casey come out and made 1 of 1 shot, then you will give him A+

  • Age

To all the Demar haters and doubters… Please step aside. .party gifts are in the back

    Huge win!

    • FREEJV

where were you after the bulls game .-.

      • Age

U seriously bringing up a game from 2 weeks ago?

But since did. Im pretty sure thats the same game your name handle “JV” was mopping the floor instead of playing bball.
2 pts and 2 rebs in 22 mins before he got the hook. Pathetic.

At least DeMar did something with 32 pts

        • FREEJV

          someone is butthurt .-.

  • FREEJV

i have 2 words for Andre Drummond: no skillset

    • johng_3

so rebounding, boxing out, and being able to block shots is not a skill set?

      • Aaron

Apparently neither is the Presence he brings in the paint. People don’t go in on him because he knows when to defend unlike big V who has about as much awareness as primo pasta

        • Minks77

Drummond is clueless on D. He gets blocks sure, because he bites on EVERY pump fake. He’s a great garbage man at this point but has no moves in the post and relies 100% on physical gifts.

      • FREEJV

        thats called athleticism bud…..

        • JRedmond14

You can be athletic and not do those things though so….

          • FREEJV

give me a player who is 7 feet 260 lbs with the jumping ability of Drummond who doesnt do those things…… ill be waiting for the answer

            • Aaron

Bogut is the most athletic but guess what? He’s one the biggest presences in the league

            • JRedmond14

Hasheem Thabeet of the top of my head. 7’3 263. Here is the ESPN link if you don’t believe me:http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/4016/hasheem-thabeet

              • FREEJV

he doesnt play…. plus hes too weak for his height and doesnt jump as high

        • Aaron

Really? So Athleticism makes a player good automatically and a presence in the paint?

          • FREEJV

see: Deandre Jordan, Javale Mcgee , Dwight howard. ALL are presences in the paint

          • v

yes for example deandra Jordan would be nothing if not for his athleticism

            • Aaron

That is true and I’m not saying this applies to every player. But he is saying Andre Drummond would be nothing without his athleticism which is true to a certain extent. He has good defensive and rebounding instincts which would still make him very valuable

    • Aaron

Besides free throws tell me something V can do better then Andre. it isn’t defence, rebounding, setting picks. also Drummond does not turn the ball over near as much. so please tell me how big v has so much more skill then Drummond.

      • jakdripr

In defence of the raptors, they already had JV that year so picking another centre wouldn’t have made a whole lot of sense. Still brings pain to my heart when I see drummond dropping those massive numbers on a nightly basis.

        • Aaron

It kills me knowing Andre is all but guaranteed to become a star while big V is struggling mightly

          • johng_3

I’m happy with T-Ross so there isn’t anything to be crying over. The Warriors could be saying the same thing but I am pretty sure they happy with Barnes. JV will come along..

            • Aaron

Don’t get me wrong Big V will eventually get it. But IT is nothing more then a solid starter which is fine but considering he was hyped so much its disappointing

          • FREEJV

tross is better than him get off his D.I.C.K

          • Guest

            All but guaranteed?
A box score the whole story does not tell.
Andre Drummond is one twisted knee away for an entirety on the bench. No skill set other than absurd athleticism. And if you’ve noticed, 260 pound guys who explode like that seem to have trouble with their knees.

        • JRedmond14

We would have had a Derrick Favors-Enes Kanter type situation if we had drafted Drummond instead of Ross haha

      • FREEJV

drummond has no skillset you givehim JVs athleticism and he ll average 8 and 5. we ll see when he turns 30+ and cant rely on his athleticism anymore. #youmad?

        • Aaron

That is 10 years down the line LOL. Same can be said about 80% of the league.

          • FREEJV

thats how long its gonna take the pistons to get to the playoffs: 10 years

            • Aaron

I agree they are built horrible just awful. But to say any of the blame goes to Drummond is ignorant

      • Minks77

I’d love to have to sort out the problem we coulda had had we drafted Drummond but right now his only skill is being more physically gifted. He’s a super raw player offensive player, great rebounder, horrible shooter/FT shooter and is lost on any rotation.

      • Guest

It cause Drummond rarely gets post ups.

So, for all the rebounds and put backs he;s throwing down, you can’t throw the ball down low and have him produce 1 on 1. Which is a HUGE safety outlet for a team, when you can post up and get good looks down low. Drummond has zero post moves. So he don’t get te ball so he don’t turn it over. THey try and post up JV cause he has the potential to grow int a solid 1 on 1 post player with time. Hence the turnovers.

    • FREEJV

i have another 2 words for Andre Drummond: 23-36

      • Aaron

Yup it’s so easy to win when your PG has become the biggest chucker in the league while you also have the second biggest chucker on your team. but yes it’s Drummonds fault

        • FREEJV

          yep.

          • De Colo

Why dont you pull your head out of JV’s ass for 2 seconds, Jesus

            • FREEJV

why are you talking you played 2 minutes today……..

              • De Colo

atleast i have a cool mysterious mask

                • Aaron

He uses the mask in bed as well. Girls think hes LeBron in the sack. so never question the mask

  • Rap4win

A win against Warrior is the Antidote to the 3OT loss not so long ago.

  • robertparish00

That was awesome. I was worried, but Landry was solid. All round great day to be a raps fan. Only negative was Leo’s man love for Curry. Get that garbage outta here!

    • DDayLewis

Yeah, how dare he show appreciation for one of the best players in the NBA?

      • Aaron

How dare he show respect to a player who deserves it!

      • robertparish00

Think of the play where it was 3 on 1. Everyone in the building knew he wanted to pass. Got in the air, pass wasn’t there and put up an awful layup attempt. Anyone else in the league Leo says…”see that is what happens when you leave your feet”. Today it was…such a smart play. Leaves for a teammate to get the rebound. I call BS on Leo.

        • DDayLewis

Leo is definitely full of bullshit, but heaping a little praise on Curry isn’t close to his worst with respect to the broadcast.

          • Gerald

A little praise? Is that like saying Lebron can kind of dunk a basketball?

        • mountio

exactly. i called this out in the forums when it happened. The thing that is show transparent is Leo gushes about any player that he has a connection with that allow him to humblebrag on air. Examples include:
          – International players so he can talk about coaching against them “in the summer”
          – Canadian players (same thing)
          – Steph Curry (so he can recount hanging out with Dell and Steph as a kid)
          – Syracuse players (although Ill give him a pass, everyone brags about their alma matter)

      • Gerald

There’s nothing wrong with appreciation but Leo’s commentary was verging on molestation.

      • Guest

        Anyone remember him from OBA?

    • FREEJV

leo loves all the opposing players except john wall lmao

  • GoingBig

Glad to see Fields in the mix – more Raptors depth please
Been very concerned about the Raptors depth – Bulls seem to have more – and they have signed Jimmer Fredette

    • tonious35

Then we start hearing news that Noah is the next Jason Kidd who speaks French, which is looking true today.

    • JRedmond14

I think if Fields emerges we have solid depth. 10 man rotation of Lowry, Derozan, Ross, Johnson, and JV (Starters) w/ Vasquez, Salmons, Fields, Hansbrough, and 2Pat. Then you add different guys in based of situation. Defense (Stone and Hayes), Shooting (Novak and De Colo), Small Ball for Casey (Buycks and Stone), etc. Better than Chicago thats for sure. I can’t remember the last time Jimmy Butler hasn’t played 40+ mins

      • FREEJV

salmons and fields together is just awful to watch. 0 shot making ability

  • Rupert

Fun game to watch the Raptors without Ross, still made you feel like they can very well play with the warriors (western conference team)

  • consmap

Honestly I think JV played better than people assume. He had an offensively productive first half (5-5 FG) and then just tailed off a bit in the second half. His boxing out and rebounding still could use work, but he wasn’t as much of a deadweight in the game as people are saying. He also did alright with help defense, got that one awesome block on David Lee.

    • JRedmond14

He played way better than a C-. Sometimes feel like whoever is grading these forgets his first half contributions. His defense was solid today against one of the better big man duos in the league. He did struggle with rebounding a bit but that was a B+ game for me from JV

    • tonious35

He played waaaaay better than the last two games, but still no the optimal JV of Season 2.

      • consmap

His production was down due to the fact that he didn’t play in the 4th quarter much IMO.
At the same time, I was okay with Casey leaving in 2Pat and Amir just because they were playing well.

For the minutes that JV played I think he at least deserved a B-.

    • asifyouknow

JV had a great first quarter,,,

  • JRedmond14

I think Joey Crawford deserves an A+ for this game. I was expecting to see like 6 unnecessary techs this game but it was good to see him control that whistle today haha

  • Hassan Mehmood Khan

JV deserves a rest I think hes too exhausted

  • Saskatoon Raps Fan

Lowry never seemed out of this game to me. His shot was off but he drew at least 2 offensive fouls and hit the floor a few times and grabbed a very timely offensive rebound before setting demar up for a nice lay in. Actually Lowry was setting ppl up nicely all game. He looked no different out there to me than any other game other than his shot is still off right now. Also have to think his ankle isn’t 100%. Don’t see how his head wasn’t in this one

    • JRedmond14

Like that awful Amir Johnson-Emeka Okafor commercial … Can’t Knock the Hustle haha

  • Fair

the grades he gave Vasquez was a little biased because of his dislike of the guy but whatever…
but Jonas definitely deserves a higher grade, the man really brought it after his terrible game vs the wiz, which shows he devotion as a player to improving and being the best he can be. he made the most of his minutes and i could have easily seen him playing big minutes in the fourth if Casey didn’t elect to use 2Pat’s floor stretching abilities instead

    • asifyouknow

JV had a great game and Vasquez and Patterson had their quarters…Vasquez is back. Playing more than 15 minutes will take one more week for conditioning he be great for the playoffs.
How many guys have real playoff experience in that team? I know one ..Vaz,,,

  • Guest

William, now can we agree that gs is not “decidedly better”? Just asking.

    • Adriiian

I agree. I’ve always thought they were overrated as a team. Don’t think Igoudala added that much to the team, especially sliding Barnes back to the bench, which kills the kids confidence and growth.

    • ad

Warriors have more talent, play in a better conference, and have a better record, so yeah, they are better. Couldve easily beat the raps today if some more 3’s fell in but thats how it goes.

      • Guest

Not the question, and I don’t agree with the conclusion in any case.

    • DDayLewis

I’m still of the opinion that the Warriors are decidedly better than the Raptors. I’m not one for anecdotal evidence, so one game doesn’t quite sway me one way or the other.

Bottom line is that the Warriors have a better record, playing in a tougher conference, with a better defensive rating and approximately the same offensive rating. The Warriors have a wealth of talent and depth on the roster and they have more experience. It’s hard for me to overcome that discrepancy.

      • Guest

Fair enough. I didn’t ask to be critical but just wondered if you were sticking to your logic.
I still don’t see it, myself. I’m not in love with their line-up the way that you are. I really don’t see the wealth of talent and depth. I see Curry, who no one can deny is an all-star – he is – along with David Lee and Igoudala. You know you’re in trouble when O’Neal forgetting his passport is part of the narrative. Raptor fans would crash the internet with their collective strokes if that were the case with our team.
I do think that saying that one game doesn’t sway you but taking into consideration a couple of games difference in the records is a bit contradictory.
Arguably, the first game between the teams we were in control for most of the game before giving it up and had the lead for most of this one. That’s not really anecdote at all, but actual result. I would think a “decidedly better” team would win handily in two games rather than almost losing both.

        • DDayLewis

Okay, skin this cat another way. The Raptors are 1-0 against the OKC Thunder this year, but I don’t think anyone considers the Raptors to be not decidedly worse than the Thunder.

Obviously I’m being a bit facetious to argue my point because OKC > GSW, but there’s more evidence supporting the notion that GSW > TOR than otherwise.

Two games just doesn’t sway me too much, is all.

          • anthonyF

And continually we hear how bad the east is. Getting tired. Miami, Indy, Toronto, Chicago, Wash all have good records vs. The west. Getting old

            • Guest

I actually had this thought as well. I can’t imagine any team in the West would be eager to face Miami or Indiana in the playoffs. That said, the logic breaks down in comparing lower seeds. Posters here have a reason to believe that the clips are better than Chi. Although I think this point is harped on and overblown. Because Toronto is easily a top 10 team so what does it matter anymore?

          • asifyouknow

I have to ask you a question but first let me say I’m actually a lifetime Spurs fan but I fallow Toronto because of Vasquez.
I’m a happy fan, my team have won many championships.
I find Toronto to be the most fun team to watch in the NBA right now, I love this team, is so entertaining, so why are fans who have not had many winning teams bitch so much about their players?
I don’t get it, maybe you do.
            :0

            • DDayLewis

We’re a pretty tortured fanbase. I’m more concerned with your endless love for Vasquez. It borders on obsessive.

              • asifyouknow

LOL.. actually I’m very stable, I’m a hard working guy and a part time musician. Love Blues and Punk… I like dogs and fishing and log walks…lol…I guess you cant say anything , protecting your fan base and all…but for a winning team your fans sound like an old lady, you know always complaining..
My Dear God tell them they got a winning team!! lmao

                • Guest

It’s passion is all. Whether negative or positive, it’s because people care about this team and want them to do well (or lose in order to do well in 5 years). I mean this in the most respectful way, but I would find it odd/almost boring in its own way to be an SA fan. And I really like them. But you’re team has won 50 plus games for like 11 or 12 years now. You consistently develop mediocre talent to perfectly fit the roles that suit you (you’re welcome for Matt Bonner). So Raps an have been trained to expect the worst.. its a defence mechanism. Everytime we get excited we get slapped in the face (or grabo’s ankle turns inside out), so being pessimistic is probably just a check against gettin wildly dissapointed.

Trust me, any of the wildly overzealous on here saying we’re “so good” and 1st round sweep is guaranteed are children who don’t remember 5 and 10 years ago. I’m optimistic, I believe in this team, I see a lot of room for growth… but raps fans are ready for the worst guy. So it just becomes negative because getting your hopes up has historically speaking, led to heart break.

It’s probably indescribable to a fan of a team that has had such sustained success over ten plus years. Glad you’re cheering for us now though man. I fucking love Timmy D.

          • Gerald

I absolutely think the GSW have more talent, but I think we match up with them really well. I think we’d stand a decent chance against them in a seven game series.

            • DDayLewis

The Warriors need to tweak their offense by playing Curry off the ball more often. Hopefully they can mold Steve Blake into last years’ Jarrett Jack role.

  • Aaron

Shoutout to fields who played fantastic! And can big V please rebound with 2 and not one hand? Nothing bugs me more!

    • consmap

Why rebound with both hands? There are plenty of things that I can do effectively with one hand.
      …Like writing letters.

    • Minks77

it bothers me more when he brings the ball down low. makes me want to slap him.

  • Tinman

    Really like this win.
We need more of this from Demar 32 pts on 16 shots.
Lets just say that we are having the luxury of developing our two sophomores, JV and TRoss, while winning some basketball games. Jonas’s time will come, but right now I can’t blame Casey for coaching to win. The Rudy trade gave us back some different options. He’s 21, still growing as a player, living in a foreign land, and taking part in some meaningful games.
Any comparisons with Drummond should mention that the Pistons are 23-36 and arguably have more talent than the Raptors.

    • Steverino

And you can’t point to Drummond as proof that it doesn’t take 5 years for a big man to develop. He’s a statistical anomaly. Just because he’s a stud doesn’t mean that Jonas is behind schedule.

      • anthonyF

Except his defense is lousy and he can’t hit a free throw. Add to that jv has played well vs. Detroit, so head to head I don’t see what the love affair here is about him. Much happier right now with jv and Ross.

  • bobmasa

Although Raptors won my biggest problem is with Duwen Casey everybody knows that John Salmons is a mass we lost many games becouse of him what i csn see from Salmon is running around missing shots, unfortunately Casey always giving him more minites than anyone else in the bench, is he a member of his family???

    • Mexiballer

Hes a good defender with quick feet. Casey needed someone out there who could cover Curry or Thompson and not let start getting off threes or breaking down the lane. Salmons can do that. He should be making more shots though.

  • De Colo

Colo in and with the turnover

  • Adriiian

DeMar is the fucking man. Not gonna lie, but I knew this was coming. You could see this kids drive… He’s going to be 10x the pro that Gay is.

Masai, please don’t resign Vasquez. PLEASE.

    • FREEJV

gotta resign the general cmon now

    • Aaron

Watching Grevis makes me cringe as much as anyone else but for the right price we Arnt going to get a better backup who can come in and give solid minutes while Lowry or whoever is our PG Next year is

      • asifyouknow

Chill dude Vaz will not be here next year…..Go with it for now…support your team..

  • peacedawg

Jonas carried the offense in the first qtr..seems a bit harsh. That’s all.

    • Sam

DeMar and Landry both chipped in 6 a piece to Jonas’ 8; how is that carrying the offense?

      • peacedawg

He got 3 field goals in a row over Bogut which gave the team momentum…nd I will let you do the math..

  • De Colo

I swear, Raptors fans bitch more after wins then any other fan base ever, wah Vasquez shot too much, wah Lowry didnt shoot good. Who cares, they won the freaking game, I’ve never seen a fan base treat a win like a loss like other Raptors fans do. If you hate winning, the 76ers and Bucks are right there just waiting for you

    • asifyouknow

DeColo you and I got to be friends I agree with 90 % of what you say…lol…lol..I’m actually a San Antonio fan who is fallowing Toronto because I’m a huge Vasquez fan. I’m hoping Vaz ends up there next year or with D’Antoni in LA or where ever he is coaching next year. That is his type of coach.
Most fans here complain about everything, they haven’t had a team this good for awhile. I love this team, they are so much fun to watch, if they get some lucky breaks and start getting some calls (is like the reffs hate them) they could get to the second round.
I AGREE WITH YOU ON THE BITCHING 100%.

      • De Colo

I agree with everything you said, even the part where you said you agree with me

I read that as passionate for the most part. While it can be draining to hear people rip on players constantly in the middle of small win streaks, I think it generally speaks to the true level of enthusiasm around this team. When I get linked other message boards is often just 100s of one liner comments by pseudo-comedians with no real basketball discussion. While sometimes I generally just see spiteful arguements on here, the START OFF basketball related.

Because of the timing of the founding of the raps they are the only team in sports I’m a true FAN of. I cheer for Syracuse, and the Eagles, but if they lose it doesn’t really affect me. I watched the first ever Raps game. I’ve seen this team grow (and regress, then start to grow, hen regress, then start over, then regress and now………….?) and I treat them like my baby. I think a lot of people born 1980-1990 really fee that way. Not to exclude others, but people born in the 80s were kids when this team came about, and it’s been a fun and frustrating ride.

So far all he negativity after a win (which can be lame)…. at least we’re passionate. Nets message boards are beyond awful.

        • asifyouknow

That is a fair assessment, well said.

  • NATHAN AGUDA

GREAT GAME. so proud of this team baby!

  • Brett

DeMar looked like Kobe out there. Well done dude!

  • ad

Nice win. The rebounding issue is really pissing me off. They keep on giving up offensive rebounds to other teams. Have to clean that up, esp in the playoffs. Also, DD played really well. Must say though, he didnt play more aggressively than he usually does, just that his mid range shots were falling. Not going to happen every game. Lowry made huge plays as always. Good game, but they were a bit lucky.

  • Colonel_Hapablapp

Is it just me or does anyone else see DeRozan becoming (a somewhat efficient) Kobe Bryant? His mid-range fade away just screams Kobe. If he develops a consistent 3 over the off season, can he reach that kinda stardom?

    • Aaron

Kobe in his prime was an amazing defender while demar is not (although he’s improving) I see demar developing into more of a better rip Hamilton

    • FREEJV

      kobe is clutch doe….

  • knucknbu

I think most raptorz fans are severely underrating the potential dd is showing out there. I can make a case that he is the first or second best sg in the league right now. His game has grown immensly since he got drafted it’s amazing.the dude is just smooth on the court. I really think his mid range game might be the best in the league to only about 3 or 4 other players….maybe. I’m not from Canada and I can’t help but think if derozon was on the Lakers or something like that he would be much much more a household name by now. I just wish he would dunk more. But o well. A poster earlier said his game reminded him of Kobe offensively and I can see that in him. As soon as demar gets it defensively he’s going to be a top 5 10 player in the league. Wasting your time looking for the next superstar on this squad dare I say he might be right in front of your face.

    • essi

Raptors fans do underrated demar potential and talent. Only 24 years hasn’t reach his prime and yet play at an all-nba level only getting better with every game. But people just want to replace him with Barnes, Deng, Hayward or mgk.

  • arsenalist

Just want to say that I called this win on last week’s podcast….and the Wiz loss as well.

    • Guest

In that case, start calling more wins!

    • Will

What does the crystal ball say about Gay’s return?

    • DDayLewis

Just want to say that whoever said the Raptors would “get blown out by 20” is a dumbass.

    • FREEJV

so when is the next time Buycks will see the floor?

  • Minks77

I’m a big Andre Drummond fan butas beastly as he is his D is even worse than JVs, much worse in fact, and his FT shooting really hobbles his offensive production. His entire offence is put back dunks too. That’s fine at 21 but not as he gets older and the L figures him out a bit. So blah blah blah I got 2 words for you: smart ass.

    • Sam

      Lol touch├ę

      • Minks77

Reach out and touch meÔÇŽ I’m just playin, love the quick reaction posts!

  • Antivasquez

    Sam,

I think your grade on Vasquez is completely fair. Unlike some raptor fans on here, I like to grade players without looking at whether we won or not as that makes it bias (in both ways). Unfortunately, Vasquez still seems like too much of a spaz with the basketball. His effort is ALWAYS there but his decision making is way below where it has to be… I shouldn’t feel nervous about turnovers when our point guard has the ball and I feel that way with him. ALSO, people seem to forget that defence matters and it isn’t always reflected in stats. So unless Vasquez is absolutely torching it on offence (which I still don’t like because his bad shot selection), his poor defence more than offsets his contributions.

and WTF is with the lack of defensive boards from our bigs…

Other than that HUGGEE win over a HUGE opponent.

(Disclaimer: I hate vasquez win or lose but I can admit when he has a good game. I do not think this was a good game even though we won.)

    • asifyouknow

      On the Wizz lost:
Before all The haters go into their -well he TO twice in the end- may I remind you that ÔÇťthe starsÔÇŁ of the team blew multiple opportunities to be a hero and win the game, also this game was ÔÇťone rebound that Toronto just gave away- from winning the game. but of course I donÔÇÖt see any criticism about that from hater nation.

      Just saying

Another word to the Vaz hater club, just 20 + more games and he is gone. You can resign AJ he is having a great season..lol

      • Chewwy No Matthew

I am not a Vasquez hater but unlike you I can say good and bad things about his play. He played AWFUL in the three overtimes against Washington. He played great in regulation. That’s just a fact. Facts seem to be something you know zero about. Again, it is clear, you are a fan and that’s cool but you are in no way somebody with proper basketball knowledge. I will even see if you can prove me wrong. Is there anything during the last two games that Vasquez has done wrong?

        • asifyouknow

Well I’ll take your word on the quote “…that’s cool but you are in no way somebody with proper basketball knowledge. ” I in turn will take the high road and say you have a different opinion that I do.

I don’t read you enough to QUESTION YOUR BASKETBALL KNOWLEDGE. you can go in Fan Nation and look at my blogs if you like, lots of NASCAR and NBA. al asifyouknow is the name.

So let me once again post my take after watching the replay 3 times:

Watched the replay……This game should of never got to the third overtime, Wiz should thank the refs for helping them….Lowry missed the important shots, he had two opportunities to end this and Vaz lost two at the end, you all know I’m a big Vaz and Lowry fan but they both sealed the lost for Toronto. I understand towards the end Lowry was hurting and Vaz was dog tired but it is the NBA and you need to play on…lets add one more, they had a rebound taken away from them that would of sealed the win.
Vasquez helped get them to the end with a chance to win:
          Lost because:
          Lowry missed two game winners
Vasquez TO 2 balls at the end
I believe it was Amir who got that rebound taken away from that would of sealed the deal.
All this folks were at fault but you and some of your friends chose to blame one person.
          All I’m saying.
Everybody had a hand on this lost

    • Gerald

Wow, 86% of Raptors fans think that you and Sam are letting your ridiculously obvious bias get in the way of legitimate analysis. Considering your handle you can’t hope to be taken seriously as a critic of the guys game. The guy has been rounding back into form after being injured. And only now are we starting to see what he’s capable of when he’s healthy. He still doesn’t have his lateral quicks back, but he’ll get better.

Good thing the legitimate basketball voices actually think he’s a stellar back up point guard. Some of them even think he’d make a decent starting PG.

      • asifyouknow

you’re wasting your time, they are blind with hate..kidding…but they don’t like the guy .
I have no problem with the haters club opinions, I just don’t like them making up their own reality,,,

  • Will

Great win! I’m glad to see Fields back and productive. I’d love to see him get some of Salmons’ minutes, especially if Salmons isn’t 100%. Also, I thought Vasquez played pretty well today. I was surprised to see he only shot 5 of 13. I didn’t feel like he took any cringe worthy shots. Patterson played well too but sometimes I wish he would just take a foul instead of giving up a layup or dunk. There are at least a couple of times each game where he’s the last line of defense and he just concedes the basket.

  • Mexiballer

The grading seems very off today. And you left out De Colo.

  • RaptorFan

Has anyone else noticed that Tim W. Is missing?? I hope someone noticed and filed a missing persons report….lol. That boy is looking like a clown right now. I wouldn’t blame him if he doesn’t have the balls to come back and face the republic for that shit he been writing.

    • essi

He’s probably eating a boat load of crow right now.

      • Team

I’m sure Tim W is under a different name reaching in his diaper and flinging baby caca at the wall and seeing what will stick , much like most of the so called writers on this site.

    • CJT

Let it go, no need to bring this up after every game. I don’t appreciate his position and view of the team either, but just move on.

      • AnthonyF

No a # of us won’t let it go. Yes he claimed to be smarter then most and made sure we all knew it and his thoughts on the team as he reveled in the teams losses. The fact is he too started to write articles for Raptor Republic and we should appreciate the effort, even if it was nothing but negative and condescending. The point is however that he has completely disappeared when it is obvious that they were not tanking, in fact are an intriguing team, winning, fun to watch with Lowry playing as a premier guard, Derozan an emerging star, Ross a strong wing player and a # of good pieces in Amir, Patterson, Vazquez….. The only player TimW could go to town on for fodder is Valenciunas.

Add to that he can’t take issue with the coaching (outside losing close games), the GM or ownership he has gone AWOL

        • CJT

Agreed on all points. I am certainly not defending him, I don’t agree with his position on the team win or lose. But at least he has demonstrated the good taste to keep quiet in the last several weeks. He doesn’t come on here and gloat after a loss and his support of the team, at least on this board was limited to the tanking movement. When that wasn’t going to happen, he stopped posting. I just don’t think the forum needs to pile on every chance it gets. Hold yourself to a higher standard.

    • Nilanka15

Wasn’t Tim’s stance that this roster isn’t good enough to be a contender? Are you saying he’s been proven wrong?

      • What the

Wow!! NILANKA15 was that TIM W. stance ? i guess birds of one feather do stick together lying mf

        • Nilanka15

          Ugh, in English please?

          • RaptorFan

I think he was saying that you and Tim W. had similar stances (I agree with him – you and tim did have similar stances). However, i give you credit for taking your shame like a man. Tim just took off! Never to be heard from or seen again. How can you respect that?

            • Nilanka15

LOL, what shame? With posters like you who are more interested in ripping people than watching basketball, can you blame him for avoiding your shit-throwing?

You want Tim to show up? Stop being a douche.

      • Guest

I think the complaint is that saying this team can’t compete now (which is completely true), yet being unwilling to be a part of the process of development is chincy. It’s easy to argue a team sucks, should trade their players and blow it up because the’ll never win a championship, because the likelihood of being proven wrong is so small. Championships are not light switches to be turned on after two top 5 picks. A lot goes into them. Now, gaining “elite talent” in the draft is a good way to build, but taking a hardline stance as it being the only way and writing off any potential development is just cowardice fandom.

      • j bean

As you know his stance was a lot more than just that this team isn’t a contender. He also slagged the players and and predicted they would win no where near the % they have.
His remedy [tanking] to lay the foundation for success looks dubious at this point.

The Raptors are a top 10 by most accounts and that isn’t mired in mediocrity. They are not that far from being a contender. Realistically two or three years from now they could contend for it all.
If you tank and everything goes perfect you might contend in three years earliest. If you don’t get lucky and everything doesn’t go perfectly as hoped you may never get to the level this team is at now.

The more Tim tried to argue his position, the sillier it looked with the Raptors beating top teams and playing such an entertaining brand of ball. Who wants another losing team to cheer for?

      • RaptorFan

Really? that was his stance? LOL I think most people on here realized that this team would need a miracle to become a contender this year. Tim W. was a negative internet blogger that you called your hero…. thats why i’m not shocked that you’re actually trying to defend him.
YES. He’s been proven wrong BIG TIME…..remember Demar? (who Tim said is an inneficient chucker who would never get better? Remember where he ranked him in his SG rankings? He’s an all-star!! Remember he could not go a day without letting us know how shitty this team was and how bleak our outlook is moving forward?? Tim W is nowhere to be seen/heard. Your cowardly hero has left you all alone.

    • j bean

      Read FLUXLAND. Same viewpoint.

  • Antoine Rose

these are the same fans and writers that wanted to trade derozen .. SMH

    • essi

      True. Very true

  • asifyouknow

This team needs rest. It will be nice to take a break. Good game by all, everybody had a quarter…

First quarter: Larry Fields. JV (Hey JV keep working, keep shooting, don’t let the expert hate on you)

Second quarter: THE GREAT Greivis Vasquez

    Third quarter: NOBODY

    Fourth quarter: DeMar and Patterson

    Lowry 3-13 with 13 points under 25 %

Vasquez 5-13 with 13 points, what’s that Mr, Holako about 7% ..I’m not good with math.

About Vaz taking 7 three point shots , well I hope he takes 15 to 18 overall, he will score 20+ that is what his four year NBA stats say and all the hate in the world will not change that but of course you are welcome to make up your own reality.

Mr. Holako glad yo know you are in the Vasquez haters club, remember just 20 + more games and he is gone. You can resign AJ for millions now that he is a star, according to some fans in Toronto, or Jeremy Lyn, he will be available with his back-up PG zillion dollar contract.
There you got alternative just chill out for a few more games..
    lol,,,lol

    • Chewwy No Matthew

It is obvious that you are just a fan who has zero basketball knowledge. Trust me, math is not the only thing you are not good at. Holako gives an analysis and is one of the more fair and knowledgable ones. Going on and being unrealistic by kissing the behinds of every Raptor would make the posts and analysis on Quick Reaction pathetic. Great job Sam and same with the other guys who do game reactions. We don’t always agree with what they post but they are clearly Raptor fans who give honest and fair grades and analysis.

  • asifyouknow

    Parting shot for this night.
Things I learned from reading the fan posts today:
    Salmons sucks
    Vasquez sucks
    JV sucks
Casey sucks (I may agree but use would other language)
    Interior defense sucks
    The water boy sucks
And on and on and on……complaining galore!
Darn this team ,according to their fans, is a mess.
I’m calling the Toronto Star and tell them to put a headline in their front page that reads:
“TORONTO RAPTORS ARE A WINNING TEAM”
    That may help. Just saying

  • Trace Fairley

Greivis Vasquez could be an underrated key to the Raps success. Wait til he has to sit out a few games for a true measure. Yes, he has his limitations, but I like his swagger and most of all his decisiveness with the ball, a true leader out there and a big reason why we have an effective bench. His distribution is excellent and he does make his teammates better. He definitely has a take charge attitude.

    • fair

i wish more raptors fans thought like you…

  • rapierraptor

Good win over a good team. Well done boys. p.s. I hate the Andre Drummond comment. The guy is a freak. Bringing up his name as something JV could/should be because look there is a young big man performing in the league proves essentially nothing to me. Totally different players.

  • Foreal

Best win of the season! Everybody played good even Fields. Made me smile.

  • RaptorsForGold

JV is definitely an enigma but I think he will be ok in the long run. I was high on him in the beginning but I am not sure how good he will be now. He could be a slightly better rebounding Rik Smits type if his shot can round into form but I’d rather he figures out the defensive side much better. Comparing JV to Drummond has to stop as they are different players and Drummond might just be better which may or may not change over there careers. Right now I am predicting Drummond as a better player but hopefully JV can take a big step on offense and at least be passable on defense in the future. In addition to improving his jumpshot, he has to learn how to use his left hand more effectively. Many have suggested a summer with Akeem and I am okay with that but I’d like to see him also spend time with someone else who might have carved out a good career without the same athleticism as Akeem. Right now if the Raptors can keep this core in tact and Jonas can keep improving he doesn’t need to make a huge jump just some noticeable improvements.

    • What the

({( RUN and REBOUND))) that is what JV is asked to do .

  • Michel G

Are we going to have a Drummond comparison every third article? We didn’t draft him, live with it. He’s a great prospect, but do you know that Drummond has only hit one jump shot over 9 feet in his two years in the league. ONE!!!!!

Is this going to be a Kessel thing. It took the leaf fanbase 4 years before they stopped whining about the trade.
