Dwane Casey Comments on Shutting Down Joe Johnson

Dwane Casey talks about mixing it up against Joe Johnson in Game 4.

After averaging 24 points over the first three games of the series, Joe Johnson was only 2-7 FG for 7 points in 42 minutes (box).   Dwane Casey addressed the defense played against Johnson in his post-game press conference:

We had eight stops at the end of the game. We were mixing it up, sometimes we were going on the dribble, sometimes we were going on the pass, sometimes we were playing straight-up. We were mixing it up, John Salmons had it a few times going straight-up. I thought mixing it up kept them off-balance a little bit. Hopefully it did, I don’t know, I’ll have to look at the tape.

Mixing it up gives them a different rhythm, because he’s such a great player, one-on-one, in the post, whereever he is, he’s one of the best in the league. We have to give him different looks and different bodies.

If I told you [more], I’d be telling everybody, it’s not my first rodeo.
