Raptors recall Powell, Nogueira, and Caboclo

Bismack Biyombo must be thrilled, right?

The Toronto Raptors have recalled Norman Powell, Lucas Nogueira, and Bruno Caboclo from Raptors 905 of the D-League, the team announced.

The trio were assigned last week and played in the 905’s fourth consecutive victory on Friday. You can read a full breakdown of their performances here, but as a quick refresher: Powell was terrific scoring, and while ha had 11 turnovers running the offense more than he’s used to, his playmaking (five assist) is noticeably coming along; Nogueira was disappointing, looking a bit disinterested or rusty, and didn’t make much of a positive impact beyond his passing; Caboclo was Caboclo, with an up-and-down performance that included some head-scratchers and some “oh yeah, that’s why” moments, like when he hit a game-tying three to send the game to overtime.

The 905 were supposed to play Sunday, too, a game that was postponed until Monday and then postponed again until March due to the weather in the northeast. With the 905 playing Wednesday morning in Mississauga, it seems a safe bet that at least a couple players will be re-assigned following Tuesday’s Raptors game.

Even if none of the three play, recalling them allows them to touch base with the parent club, go through shootaround, and take in a game from the bench, something they’ve all spoken about the value of. And hey, they could get to be a part of the humble celebrations when and if the team ties the franchise record with a ninth straight victory. Bismack Biyombo should be happy to see them, anyway, right Powell?

The Raptors tip off at 7:30 against the Washington Wizards, against whom they’re 3-0 this season.
