It felt like the starters sleep-walked through much of this game, but Serge had a really good first half before looking disengaged in the third quarter. Had a nice give-and-go with Jonas, hit some shots, and worked hard on the boards.

OG comes out every night and works so hard on defense, it’s hard to get too mad with his shooting being off. He struggled early with his three-point stroke, but the team kept finding him in good positions and eventually he got one to go down.

J. Valanciunas24 MIN, 18 PTS, 10 REB, 2 AST, 2 STL, 7-12 FG, 2-3 3FG, 2-4 FT, 2 BLK, 1 TO, 7 +/-

The Knicks don’t really have any healthy frontcourt players right now, and Jonas made that painfully obvious. Hit a three early in each half, played tough defense, and just owned the glass while he was on the floor. The only starter who had it going offensively.

C+
K. Lowry25 MIN, 7 PTS, 2 REB, 3 AST, 1 STL, 2-10 FG, 2-8 3FG, 1-2 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, 5 +/-

The bench is so good right now that Kyle and DeMar don’t have to be good, and they’ve proved that several times recently. On the other hand, it’d be nice if Kyle and DeMar could get back to being dominant offensively, and they both were just off tonight.

C+
D. DeRozan29 MIN, 8 PTS, 5 REB, 5 AST, 1 STL, 2-11 FG, 1-5 3FG, 3-3 FT, 1 BLK, 1 TO, 8 +/-

Same as above for Kyle, but DeMar did some other good things tonight. I like the way that despite his shot being off, he continues to keep guys involved. Sure, there were moments where he really forced his own game in this one, but he also created a lot of great looks for his teammates.

F. VanVleet24 MIN, 10 PTS, 1 REB, 5 AST, 2 STL, 4-11 FG, 2-5 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, 18 +/-

Honestly, what can’t Fred do? The bench came in for both the second and fourth quarters, and just took over. This group is rolling, and every guy is engaged at both ends of the floor.

A+
P. Siakam23 MIN, 14 PTS, 5 REB, 7 AST, 2 STL, 6-9 FG, 1-3 3FG, 1-1 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, 20 +/-

One of Pascal’s best games of the season, distributing, working the boards, scoring. He did a little bit of everything tonight.

A+
D. Wright22 MIN, 11 PTS, 3 REB, 3 AST, 1 STL, 5-6 FG, 1-1 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, 18 +/-

What Delon does to teams in the passing lanes is cruelty. Frank Ntilikina had five turnovers in this one, and it felt like Delon never let him get comfortable.

A+
J. Poeltl20 MIN, 13 PTS, 5 REB, 1 AST, 0 STL, 6-7 FG, 0-0 3FG, 1-1 FT, 1 BLK, 0 TO, 22 +/-

Jak missed one shot tonight, a block by Luke Kornet. The next trip down the floor though, Poeltl dunked on him. Controlled the paint, had a huge block that created a transition opportunity for the team, and showed off his soft hands.

C. Miles20 MIN, 11 PTS, 5 REB, 2 AST, 1 STL, 4-8 FG, 3-6 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 1 TO, 23 +/-

CJ has really found his home with this Raptors second unit, and the guys he’s out there with are so good at finding him in a great place to hit shots. Nice scoring night, also contributed 5 boards which is great to see from him.

B+
L. Nogueira4 MIN, 2 PTS, 2 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 1-2 FG, 0-1 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -4 +/-

Bebe came in for garbage time and did have a big putback dunk, and missed a three. Great to have this guy as injury insurance, but with the way the other two centers are playing, will be hard for him to get too many minutes aside from that.

B+
N. Powell4 MIN, 0 PTS, 3 REB, 0 AST, 0 STL, 0-2 FG, 0-2 3FG, 0-0 FT, 0 BLK, 0 TO, -4 +/-

Norm got garbage minutes, and missed his two good looks from three. There’s still a chance the Raptors will need him at some point though, and hopefully he stays ready.

A+
Dwane Casey

All Raptors fans have wanted from Casey in past years was winning the games they should and not running the stars into the ground. Because of the bench and offense he’s built, this is now 5 of the last 8 games where Kyle Lowry has played less than 30 minutes. Kudos to the coach for that.

Things We Saw

  1. Sad to see Bruno go. I know he never quite fit, and never really figured things out, but he seemed like a good guy and the talent always looked like it was there. Wish him the best going forward.
  2. The Raptors have been dominant of late. This is now four big wins in a row, with the bench devastating teams in each of them.
  3. The starters really did sleepwalk through most of this one. Just didn’t have the energy, but still managed to build and hold a lead through Jonas being great and solid defense. If they can get rolling again while the bench is playing the way they are, this team might have yet another gear.
