Raptors Playbook: Halfcourt Season Preview (75+ Plays w/ Diagrams & Film)

Over at the Raptors Playbook YouTube channel (@RaptorsPlaybook on Twitter), I am breaking down the X’s & O’s of the Toronto Raptors. To prepare for the upcoming season, I have compiled a diagram and a couple of representative clips for each play that I have previously broken down  over the last few seasons, or will be breaking down in the future. As the title says – that is over 75 plays. With Nick Nurse being promoted to Head Coach – many of these plays will carry over, as he was reportedly instrumental to the Raptors’ offense through the years — and based on 1 preseason game, the offense is the same as last year.

If any play catches your attention and you wish to get a more in-depth breakdown, find the full compilation version embedded in the text below.

Additionally, I have included a link to the PDF where I have compiled my comprehensive “Raptors Playbook” of all the plays I have observed over the past several seasons (which are also presented in the video):

Lastly, remember to follow and subscribe to never miss out on a video.

“Culture Reset” Offense – Starts at 0:06

These are the plays that are most likely to be heavily featured once again this season. They were the read-and-react, motion-type plays that were introduced in the 2017-18 season.

“Pre 2017-18 Offense” Offense – Starts at 4:38

These are the plays that still appeared prominently during the 2017-18 season, they featured much more prominently in prior years and would typically be characterized as more scripted and less dynamic than plays introduced after.

End of Quarter – Starts at 17:21

Some typical end of quarter (EOQ) sets the Raptors have depended on over the years. They run other sets in these situations, but they are not as context dependent as the following ones, or have been mentioned somewhere else in the video.

Horns Flare:

Veer:

End of Game – Starts at 17:53

These are the reliable plays that popped up in close games year after year. Again – this doesn’t mean the Raptors didn’t use other plays (for example, lots of pick and roll stuff like Ram and Wedge) in crunch time, but these were more context dependent.
